Been working on the brakes and have finally managed to cobble a workable solution together.

The e12 535 master cylinder bolts directly to the bulkhead and another bonus is the outlets are on the opposite side to the OE one, which helps with clearance. Being a dual circuit brake system we needed a suitable remote servo and there is only one supplier. Unfortunately they sold out the day their delivery arrived and at 8 weeks till the next one, it looked like we would need to run dual remote servos (like a 2002) which would be expensive and take more room. Luckily one of SVC customers said I could have theirs. :) So hopefully that's the brakes sorted - for now anyway. In the future I want to go with an aftermarket pedal box.

Next on the list is an aftermarket fuse-box so the old bullet fuses can be junked.

There should be some paint going on any day now. :shake

Mark,
Have you considered replacing the whole harness??
See here http://www.keepitcleanwiring.com
they do list a whole harness inc slimline fuse box. 1980 bmw 316 in the vehicle specific for $199

I think I will be replacing the whole harness just using origonal switch gear, esp after what happened to MIB

That's just the job.

The problem I had with MIB is that the wiring was butchered long before Nas ever got his hands on it. It had a massive battery drain and earthing issues etc etc. The new MIB has never been touched in any way and the wiring is just as good as it was the day it left ze factory.

That said, I simply want to lose the bullet fuses and have something that isn't so fugly stuck on top of the inner wing.

I just figured even if a harness looks really good, it is still 30 years old and they do go brittle, so with any movement, you can end up chasing problems for days.
Plus always neater and easier to route a shaved engine bay harness when you can wrap p-clip and trim to length.

what one did you order? the one i linked?? did you get any extra circuits?

Just had email to tell me these looms are NLA for the next 60 days minimum. :nah

I've looked at a couple of alternatives but still waiting on shipping costs & availability. The only things available in the UK look like something from Maplins or Tandy and that's not quite the look I was going for.

On a brighter note SVC have sourced me the dual circuit remote servo. I still need to order the pads from Hawk but I can't do that till I know what calipers I'm going with.

I'm sure I had more hair when I started this build.

Well there was some progress today.

Unfortunately, as the paint went off, it soon became clear there was a problem with the mix and the primer was still bleeding through in some spots. As a result, the supplier is having to mix and send another batch. It's sods law that we've got a bank holiday weekend to delay things though.

Mick's track e28 is coming along nicely.

Spotted some others

I also had a nose around the base for my sprint car while I was at it. Just the corner of the footwell to do and then it's time for the cage to go in.
