It was Magnus Walkers blue 911 that sort of convinced me. I know an e21 is no 911, but it's the same rake and staggered rim look I'm aiming for with MIB.

Nothing wrong with gold wheels, I should have mine back from refurb this week!

I too used to have a Polo classic, but I never tried wrapping it upside down round a lamp post! Glad they were able to sew you back together, that looks like a fatal on any other day... :(

Work started on new coil pack cover for my engine. Once finished, all the plastic will be gone and with ITB fitted, it should look old school once again. 8)

this is going to look really interesting, I have the same problems with the M20, want the oldschool look, but the 6 individual coils that are coming with the EMU engine management, dunno where to put them that they will look age apropriate.

You could remote mount the coils and run plug leads, like on an M42. I guess you'd need to make plates to reduce the coil sized holes to plug lead sized holes, and extend the loom to wherever the coils were hidden, but it could work.

Can't wait to see the coil cover Mark, looks very interesting!

Mark, how come you chose a worked m52 over an s52? I'd have thought the money on itbs and cams would bring it into the same price bracket?

Also, I really wanted to ask you the other day what gearbox did the twr have? I'm thinking potentially an e12 might have had an m30 box with a cable driven speedo?

By the time you've bought cams, ITB kit, standalone ECU and had it all fitted and mapped, it's cost more than an s54. I was fortunate in that some parts were contributed by the companies involved, but I also liked the idea of having something a little different. You could save a few quid by using the Jenvey inlet manifolds and running E36 M3 ITB's and the stock M52 ECU in Alpha N mode, if you were so inclined.

Hopefully I'll have an update re MIB within the next few days. It's highly unlikely to be ready for Santa Pod though, which means it'll be next year before it makes any show.

TWR made their own bell-housing for the m20 gearbox.

Bit of an update on MIB.

The route we took on wiring MIB and replacing the OE fuse box meant splicing 3 different looms. The original E21, the E36 engine loom and a partial new loom, that included the new blade type fuse box and assorted relays. With 20/20 hindsight we wouldn't go this way again but it's done now. Well almost. Although we've had the engine running and completed the process of getting all 3 looms spliced, we now have to cut back and remove all the excess wire. After that we have to solder and heat shrink wrap every join. A long, laborious process. Given what happened with the original MIB though, it's obviously important that we do it right.

Once the wiring is all completed, the cage is coming out and the final metal work is to be done. (custom seat mounts) The trimmer is then getting it for a week.

Anyway, the long and the short of it is that it is hopefully going to be finished by the end of October.
