Why weren’t you happy with the MTS?

Re: My car 318 76 model converting to 323i
Because it doesn´t have damper stiffness adjustment, and using MTS in front was too stiff for me. I´m over 50 years old, and I want to keep my tooth fillings where they are. The BC kit is not that stiff when you choose the kit I have, which travels 1mm pr 5.5kg in front with load, and 4,5kg in the rear, and with the soft setting on damper, gives the car a chance to ride "soft". So if I need to go on track for a day, I can adjust the stiffness on the damper, and that is done in seconds.

Ah ok. For me with the M10 the MTS work out well. Previously I had Bilstein and Eibach. Mainly the rear was constantly ending out. And the front was way too high because of the six cilinder spec and added camber adjustment. And too soft, the car was quite boaty.
The MTS I have, have a spring rate of 60 all around. Which is not that different from BC. I never looked at damping rates.
But cool you keep the fillings now where they belong. All cars are set up differently and behave different. Was just wondering wat is was, since I’m satisfied with them

Re: My car 318 76 model converting to 323i
It´s just 2 weeks left until my first test drive.
I have ordered temporarly license plates for testing purpose before I need to have my car aproved after being rebuilt from 318 to 323i.
The last days I have replaced exhaust headers, and welded the 2nd exhaust outlet in the rear right side.
Also I have welded the exhaust tail pipes, just need to fully weld them and give them som silver paint.
Also did a test start after 2-3 months, and the idle have gone up from 800 to about 1100rpm. Not sure why. But will adjust the fuel when I´m going to do the test drive.
The hood is finally back on.

Not 100% sure if the picture is lying, but the right tail looks abit out "sync" compared to the left. Can´t remember it look this "bad" when I took the picture. But will figure it out when installing the exhaust back on again.

Engine running.

Finally the car is 98% done.
Need to paint the rear part where the 2nd exhaust is. Will do it later this summer.

Here is an video first time outside of the garage after almost 1,5 year.
https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipO ... 1yMm04WEtB
First drive didn´t go very well, after driving on the road abit, I parked the car idling outside the garage, and I noticed the temp was rising, and the fan didn´t start. I switched off the car, and it was boiling hot. The thermostat hadn´t open up for the radiator, so the was no water passing through the temp sensors controlling the fan. We removed the the thermostat and testet in a water boiler, no effect. Lucky for me I have 2 thermostats at home, I went home and replace it with a 71 degree, just to make sure it wasn´t going to boil again. This lowered the temp abit too much, but keeps the car cool. I will put in a 80 degree later.
Then we had a few more short trips, and the rocker arms started to make a lot of noise. We took of rocker cover and checked all the rockers, and it turned out that 1 of them was totally off, and we had to adjust it back to 0.25mm, then we adjust the timing too, as it was abit off.
Now the engine is running ok, just need to check the CO, and se where we are. It has to be under 5% to get aproved for the road.
Then engine revws nice, and really have an ok acceleration from 4500 rpm in 2nd and into 3rd, which I find very enjoyable.
So on wednesday I will take the car home and put in rear seats and wash it, as the 1. of May we have an offical day where we mark the start of the car season, and all kind of brands, and cars meet at several parking lots to show of their car. I will be with BMW CCN Rogaland, which is my local BMW club, and can´t wait for another drive with the car. It´s such a nice car to drive, and with the inline 6, it´s music to my ears, I really have been missing the sound from the inline 6.

Always some things to be fixed after a first drive, glad the overheating has not caused permanent damage. Sounds like you're on time for the meet!

Re: My car 318 76 model converting to 323i
Today is a good day... I got my car aproved, and is now street leagal

So by now the project is done. Still have some minor things to do. Paint the rear, and minor CO tweaking, running 0.21 on CO, and HC 580 when idling, which is abit low. I will adjust it up some more.
Lambda is around 1.2, which says it runs lean...
But I have many projects for the car during winter time....
