got the lambda fitted car seems a lot better now but its still running a liitle rich... i think the ecu needs a reset so it can relearn? its a motronic so naturally im assuming its clever like that? despite that if you drive it properly then theres no problem.. my initial thoughts are that its very quick, but it isnt burry vision fast. the noise it makes is the best thing about it lol. handling doesnt seem to be affected, although i am running a strut brace so it may have improved it a little.

anyway ive just been into my local motor factors to grab some bits for the daily.... got talking to guy behind counter and hes got a e39 5 series with a 2.8 thats been wrote off. he wants me to take the whole thing.. so im off to see it later on tonight. im thinking that i will hire a unit / big garage this winter n pop the bigger engine in over the holidays. if i get it cheap its pointless keeping the m50? changing the engine will be much faster the second time round i reckon.

i already have the e34 oil pan and the big port inlet manifold, should see a good 250hp?

It's all about the torque Nas! Good work though mate and a nicely done conversion. Might be worth you looking to see what chips are available too?

I think you'll be way past me! Till the TWR is up & running anyway! ;)

To sort the temp sender get the resistance of the m50 sensor (2 pin) at the engine running temp (if it is Bosch there are tables on the net) and then measure the m20 sender (1 pin) restance at 80deg work out the difference and wire in a resistor to suit

now that's a bloody good idea! what if I stuck a variable resister on the signal wire and then waited for the fan to kick in then id be able to know when it was getting 92 degrees? I could turn the resistance up or down on the fly?

I would only adjust so the gauge was in the middle before the fan kicks in

You still want to know when it gets to hot

i been looking all over the place for info on the resistance of a temp sender and no luck!

The haynes manual says

"Where the sender unit
has two terminals, test the circuit by checkingthe resistance of the unit. No figures were
available at the time of writing, but typically
readings of several hundred or several
thousand ohms (depending on temperature)
would be expected. A reading of zero (shortcircuit)
or infinity (open-circuit) would indicate
a faulty sender unit.

where do i find the info?

well. thought I would update me thread.

My VDO senders arrived, (oil temp and pressure) grand total of £50 delivered for both - next day from www.machine7.com the temp sensor is also a sump plug, and the pressure is the twin pole effort so I wont need to T-Piece the original oil pressure switch - hopefully will make my life easier.

There's still problems with the engine running. When i have the engine running with the maf plugged in - it stutters and pops runs really rich and not full power, but when unplug the MAF it reverts to the safe fuel map and it runs brilliantly, so naturally i buy a new MAF - a genuine Bosch one - which near enough cost the same as the bloody engine donor and it still runs like ass.

I think i have some serious vac leak somewhere, as im gonna have to take the inlet manifold off tomorrow (which wont be much fun) to fit my senders / sensors - ill have a proper go at finding what ive narrowed down to a severe vacuum leak. Im hoping its going to be obvious.

The fabritech guy said he can modify the steering link it still rubs ever so slightly on very sharp left hand bends. so im gonna have the flange for the guibo taken off altogether and a new piece welded onto the lower Ujoint and the upper one. which will give me tons of clearence.

I also ordered some heat shield stuff.

Im nearly there, the car does "work" so I havent failed, but tbh im getting towards the end of my patience for all this stuff....

Just checked the sender resistance and it was what we thought the other day.

I fragged two other cars to do this engine swap, n sold some spare bits i had left over but the biggest saving I made is not having to pay for labour, i did all the main grafting myself.
