e30's mine & e21 is Micks @ pristine.
I had the same issue once with a cheap filter. Some don't have the valve jobby in and so they're a false economy. Yeah, flat out on track wouldn't be a good thing to happen.

Red shell was sold today and will be going to make way for the black 316. The postman brought some goodies too!

Hi Mark
I wonder if you make this model a good replica of what you are building? See

Call me sad but I mention this as I have at last finished a model of Herman (same colour etc ) myself- even has the Deko stripes which go on the real thing next week

Went to unit today to look for some bits/bobs. Found car parked outside covered in frost. When Jason arrived he said the lads didn't want to drive it back in as it had chucked all its oil out on the floor when they started it (pootled it outside then returned to find big pool of oil). I stuck some more oil in and started up - instant puddle. On closer inspection the o-ring has blown out of the filter, presumably cold thick oil that hasn't been stirred for a couple of months now gave it enough pressure to pop it out. Anyway I have put a new filter on, refilled with oil and it keeps oil in, has good pressure and doesn't make any nasty noises. It was a cheapo filter, so it could just be faulty. Would have been much worse if it happened on track, goodbye engine potentially.
In the picture above I see an e30 and a couple of e21's - whose are they???
Ten years ago, I owned a sweet Alpine White 318i - I knew less about cars then and, arriving back at my car in a car park one day, I was aghast to see that it had dumped all its oil on the ground. Towed it to the BMW dealer, who changed the oil, cleaned the engine bay and charged me $250 with the message that the timing chain needed to be changed soon.
Anyway, this happened several times - I would change the oil, screw on a new filter and then, no warning at all, the ring on the filter would fail... I didn't know what was going on.
The chain finally slipped big time - the teeth on the chain pulley were very worn - and it was time for a top end recondition.
So, if your oil suddenly dumps out of the seal on your filter, take the warning - it could be your timing chain has slipped and needs to be replaced.
Just a thought

All rebuilt a couple of years ago so should be OK.

I spotted a beast of a Lotus today.

Imagine that engine in an e21.

Crazy machine
I am of the opinion that in a suitably lightened E21 a 2.8 M52 will make it mental enough. Will see if I am right in the near future!

Boring & painful job to do by hand but the results have been worth the effort.

They are cracking... Well done! I tried to do my black set of 15" BBS mahles once, pure ball ache and they still looked like sh!t afterwards.
