Eh - new cars suck. ALways stick with oldies; esp if you have one already in good nick! The only folks who bag out old Bimmers in favour of new cars are those who have never driven one! Once they do, they end up understanding why the owner likes the car. Just the other week I got an earful from a friend at uni who thought that Bimmers sucked and how a WRX was the best car ever. So I let him drive the e12 around the block, and he ended up conceding that it was nice and fun to drive at that it still felt modern!
If this fails, ignore the detractors

I know exactly how you feel Mat. Got a mate with a wrx who was bagging my old e21 but when i let him have a drive of it he was absolutely gob-smacked! Couldnt believe how much fun it was to drive and how smooth, and how fast it was. Old bmws are amazing machines specially when looked after!
BTW Claire that is possibly the most impressive e21 i have ever seen, and iv owned 5 of them. Australia is a country that has either REALLY REALLY good examples of them or just plain terrible falling-to-bits ones. Truley stunning example, the colour, the wheels!!! DAMN! Almost cried when i heard you were rear ended
Yep thats about it really... i could have a rant about drivers in australia since my own baby was rear ended rather badly, but iv already had my say

This is so true!
And AMEN about the WRX-Nazis

. A WRX is a fast and nice-handling machine (if fairly trashy), but it doesnt mean that it is the best thing on the road just because its cheap and fast

. Other cars are good for other reasons as well -speed aint the bottom line. Its annoying when folks cant understand this, and chew your ear off with their opinions

Really? I've never driven one, but I've read apparently good reviews on all models. How could Subaru stuff up the handling in an AWD car

Car is now fixed after the rear end incident. Would you believe, that on the way to get my car from the panel shop, i was rear ended!!!!!!!!! We had been stopped for around a minute at a light and *BANG*. i wasn't exactly hiding in a red 351 XD ute, which covers big, bright and loud!!! I do not know what these drivers are doing! Thank goodness i wasnt in the BMW yet!
Now i had planned on posting photos of it all fixed, as well as those showing the damage, but i just realised its now dark and i wont be able to take any decent ones, so i will just show the before at the moment! (its much less painful to show now i know what the after looks like).
Now, here is the damage, Can't really see it here, but even though it may look small, wasnt cheap for the guys insurance company!!!
In these next two you can actually see the damage where the panel has been pushed in and out along with the bumper.
here you can see the damage under near the number-plate where everything was all pushed around and how the force cracked the tail lights. There was also damage inside near the spare wheel, but it was too hard to capture on my phone camera!
And this was taken as i walked away from my car leaving it to be repaired. Its a very weird feeling driving off and leaving it somewhere! I think that my attachment to my car may just be somewhat unhealthy...
Exactly 1 1/2 Weeks later (yesterday) I picked her up again. There was an unveiling! Two men lifted the cover at the same time and there she was! I was trying to be mature and just smile... inside i was jumping up and down and giggling...

Yep, damages like these look quite harmless but in many case they aren't. A friend of mine had a similar looking damage on his 9 months old X5... and it was a total loss!
Anyway... glad the car's fixed now, looking forward to seeing the end results.
Fun how they presented the car to you
BTW what's this thing about all that rear ending in Aussie? Are they all sleeping, making phone conversations, what?

heh, maybe its just that aussies like to give it up the...
No, i dont know what it is. I am not even sure its all Aussies, just the ones driving behind me!
This is the 4th time its happened to me. I am so glad my father was in the car with me as he was witness to the fact that i was stopped for a quite awhile first. He has been insiting that to have such bad luck i must be slamming on my brakes really quickly. Another funny thing, when it happened my Father and i both swore. Turned out we were swearing about different things. The ute had been leaking a bit of auto fluid, he was swearing cause he thought that auto had gone.. so when he found out it was an accident he was like, oh good

(there was no damage cause there is a big square tow bar thing on the back of the ute).
