yep that's probably why you have some damaged starters. fairly sure any m10 auto ring will work - check the part number on real oem and cross reference it

I don't know how much you like the Auto, but as the transmission has to come out to swap the flywheel, this is a good time to convert to manual if you want to!

Ok I will do cheers mate!,trouble is getting one and all the bits if a e30 one is defo straight forward minus the speedo working I'd do it but crossing over parts and fabing on a car I need back on the road, might not be the best plan,I hate auto, but I love my car so need it back on the road ether way :-/

Thing That worries me is if I replace the fly wheel, the starter and it still does the same thing it did to cause the damage, would a starter for a auto be the same as a manual,I don't have the original starter to see if the cog has the same amount of splines

I'm pretty sure there are just 2 types. Early and late, with yours being the latter.
Try Tim, the guy breaking the Alpinalike on eBay. He breaks a lot of cars and isn't too far away from you, I think?

Fritz bitz might be able to help. all you need is the flywheel (although im sure in the context of automatics its probably called something else)
