You're asking me to remember details from 20 odd years ago?johne21 wrote:Hi Araf,

Here goes, but don't shoot me if some are wrong.
Yes, the car had an Alpina plate, though I can't for the life of me remember the number. I have a feeling that it was 0074 or 0076, and there was no model designation on it, that I can remember.
4 cylinder 2.0 litre engine carried over from the 2002. Fully balanced internals, and the rev limiter had ben raised (mechanical limit on rotor arm). If I remember correctly, the power was around 170ps on the swiss documents, though the 2002 Alpina was only rated at 160bhp, so this may be wrong.
Injection was provided by Bosch K Jetronic mechanical injection on a Kugelfischer pump via Alpinas own throttle bodies. Alpina injection was superior to the BMW set-up, due to the position of the injectors in relation to the butterflies. Sand casts of the throttle bodies were taken by ETA BMW in the early 90s, but whether they managed to make sets or not, I don't know.
After a little problem on the way back from Castle Combe (BMWDC day) I blew the head gasket, and so took the oportunity to change the cam to a fast road schrick.
Gearbox was a 5 speed getrag with a dog-leg first. I have no idea of the ratios.
Rear axle had a LSD installed
Wheels fitted were BBS cross spokes. I remember that the tyres were wider at the rear, but I can't remember whether the wheels were staggered as well. I remember that the car had Yokohama A008 tyres fitted, which were about as sticky as you could get, at the time.
Interior was wrong when I got it. There was no Alpina lettering on the instruments, and the steering wheel had been changed for a leather rimmed race item. Gearstick also just had a black knob on it with the gear positions.
Driver's and passenger seats were proprietry 70s race seats, and the rear was a black/white Houndstooth bench seat (I think). Someone wanted the 70s race seats, so I swapped the whole interior for a standard E21 set.
That's about it, though if you have further specific questions, post up, and I'll try and remember.

Re: Alpina A4
I am still debating whether I should sell my original MOMO Alpina 4 spoke steering wheel - which although all intact is worn- and could ideally do with a re-trim
My trimmer says you need a special needle for this- and he can't do it
So should I sell the aforementioned item (I have a nice MOMO 3 spoke wheel at present)? Or does anyone have a steering wheel trimmer (I have the leather!)

Re: Alpina A4
well normally steering wheels are covered in a nappa leather so its finer and you have to be a little more careful to work with it but most places should be able to do it. all the stitching came out of my 2002 motorsport steering wheel and i managed to repair that myself. worth ringing around i think and sorting it.TopCat wrote:I am still debating whether I should sell my original MOMO Alpina 4 spoke steering wheel - which although all intact is worn- and could ideally do with a re-trim

Re: Alpina A4
I know this is for more modern cars, but the guy is cheap (compared to other wheel trimmers) and good, apparently.
