i thought it was hartger that made the left hand drive moulded dash pod not alpina

They both did one although I think the Alpina one was a 2002 item originally? Hartge's looked a bit better as I recall the Alpina one was just a box on the dash next to the binnacle. I'll try and find the brochure and scan it in.

I'm just off to brave the cold and fit mine. I've had to do mine on a tight budget and this cost £17 (£11 for gauges & senders plus £6 for the pod) The gauges are TiM and seem fine for my purposes. I asked around and they're supposed to be pretty reliable. Anyway, they were the best I can afford so will have to do for now.



I'm going to try trim tape to fix the pod on top of the dash but if that fails it'll be a drill and self-tappers.
I'll post some pics of the fitting procedure, wiring etc, once it's finished.

Dont waste your time mark with trim tape or any other double sided tape, ive tried all that and it just fly`s of when you put your foot down.. just screw it down.. easier and very secure.....

you need 3m dubble sided tape, rock solid, taped my foha bootspoiler on like that!

100% agree......any double sided tape will be a crappy (and short lived) solution.
If you don't want to drill your dasboard, there's a very good adhesive that will work fine. I don't know how is it called in Britain. It's made by Silka, 3M, etc...It's called "Sikaflex" here in my country. It's similar to a black silicone adhesive, but much stronger and very flexible, and most important, heat, vibration and damp resistant. It's the kind of adhesive they use to use to affix the windscreens in place.

ok,wouldn't some type of 'patent' work,so as to use the screw holes which are there underneath,for the useless factory speaker?(at least for older dashes,I don't know if 79 on dashes had a mono-speaker there as well)

hey good ideas here. im going to fit mine in the cubby hole in front of the gearstick. i actually have had the gauges below since 2001 i found them in the shed a month ago. they aye from an audi 80 coupe.

Still playing about with position before I drill any holes.

Mark, looks good but a little thought on this.. as you only using 2 gauges why dont you fit them in the airvent like what i did, this way you wont have to be drilling holes and using the gauge pod!!! if i had 2 to fit i suppose its what i would have done!!

why dont you mount them in the pillars using a pillar pod??

they look a bit in the way on top of the dash like that.
