Forgot to ask...are you going to try and grind out some of the extra metal in the 320/6 manifolds to try and get it to match the engine ports or are you just going to leave and fit as is? Thinking about it would that even make a difference as I'm guessing it's the same measurement throughout the pipe?

I spoke to a couple of experienced members on here and I was informed that the ports on the manifold are a slightly different size to the ports on the engine, but it's small, and won't make much of a difference.

That was enough for me, so I went ahead and bought the E21 6cyl manifold.

With regards to actual sizes, I was curious and got the vernier calipers out and had a measure of both ports, my conclusion is that there's about 1.6mm difference between the two. How much that affects performance remains to be seen, but only time will tell for me.

A few people are running the setup I plan to use, and from the sounds of it, it doesn't make much difference.

Do you have to go with the 320/6 exhaust gaskets then?

I used the E30 ones, as they form part of the heat shield.

Jamie off here painted the engine bay for me today.

Very happy with the results, looking forward to getting it back together now.

Nice work. Makes all the difference having new paint in the bay.

I've been focusing my efforts on getting the engine bay ready for this weekend, which is when the M20 will hopefully find its new home.

I wanted a fresh OEM sound deadening section, but BMW don't supply them anymore and nobody in the UK was holding any stock, so I resorted to buying some engine bay specific material and making my own.

Spent a while templating it up and cutting it out then covering it with a water resistant fleece.

Then got it fitted with velcro, so I can remove it in the future, should I need to.

Nice delivery of parts and tools arrived too:

Old subframe compared to the new one:

Fitted, with the fresh ARB:

Made a fresh brake line (old one had snapped)

and fitted:

First servo fitted:

All finished:

Few more bits and pieces to be doing over this week, then ready for dropping the engine in on Saturday.

I would have given the servo's / masters and the brackets and the steering link a bit of paint, its going to be well apparent when you stick your shiny engine in the shiny bay.

also go to screwfix and buy a couple of rolls of self amalgamating rubber wiring loom tape.

all these little touches make a difference between an average job and a very nice one - do it now while its in bits you will hate yourself if you don't.

I've already got some self amalgamating tape, so I'll do that when the wiring is finished.

You're probably right about the servos and brackets, I'll see what I can do.
