Well after much debate about what to get for my next project, things have changed slightly. Was thinking along the lines of a 205, E30 or even an MX5 track car.....but, ive been offered this!! For 500 quid! An absolute 80's top gun monster

And the idea, is to turn it into something along the lines of this

Not exactly what you chaps want to see im sure, but im pretty excited about it! Cool winter project for sure :)

Groups of men, dressed head to toe in leather, talking about what they've got between their legs? :wha

I bet it'll be quick tho.

Haha, i agree Mark. Im actually not really into the whole sports bike scene anyways, im after a KTM 625 when i can afford it. Like to do most my riding off-road. Just think this would be a kick ass winter project and the bloke at work is selling it for peanuts. I could get it off him and make a few hundred quid selling it straight back on if i wanted to.

thats cool dave!
bikes, not really my cup of tea breaking every bone in my body when i inevitably run of of skill... but like it!

reminds me too much of walloping into a tree at about 20 mph on my mountain bike when i was 15. smashinating my left wrist and cracking a rib about 2 miles from the nearest road. not fun!

All need sorting before this insurance milarky thats stressing the f**k out of me.

Made a start yesterday
Image

Using some ali mesh for the front spoiler and sill
Image
Took pics of it all with filler but the flash just glared everything out
Image
All just needs sanding down and painting again now in prep for the wing re-fitting

Looks OK that. Mine on the Baur were completely rotted out so I decided they didn't really do anything terribly structural and chopped them off completely.

Yeah i thought about doing that mate, but i had some scrap metal lying about so just cut some up and used the welder (that i remembered you gave me....:)) The front of the sill bits prob the worst. The holes go through into the drivers footwell (turnsout something still leaking too) Ive just bent some of that mesh around it and gone to town with filler. Will have to be careful never to let a jack go near it!

Welders should be used as often as possible.

I rebuilt the footwell corners on the slug, bit fiddly but it went OK. Of course I had big chunks of roll cage footplates there to aim at so it wasn't too hard. Chopping out thin rusty stuff and making the fiddly bit would be a bit harder. Good bodge with filler will last for many years.

The body shop have estimated 840 quid to the insurance!! Ithink their proper taking the piss with that amount. Quite scared of them 'running a pen through it' as the bloke put it.......But he seems optimistic it will go ahead.

still having trouble with the fact that youve opted to repair stuff with filler that would have been easier to, and should have been welded.
