I superglued it back together and soldered the path so I *think* it's working okay. However when I first plugged it back in my brake warning light came on (which I've never seen before) but then went off, and the fuel gauge was going wildly between 1/2 full and empty. Now the fuel warning light is on and I don't know if to trust it anymore because of the snapped circuit! Do you know what this circuit is for?

Also another question, I forgot how to route my speedo cable - does it go under or over the mounting point for the clocks?
Jason,

The wild fuel gauge indicates a groudn problem, I had the same. I dd not try to figure out the entire wiring and circuit board, but these circuits do influence each other so I strongly recommend te replace the white plastic part as a whole. What I do know is that you can always trust the warning light, so if the gauge is at 1/2 and the light comes on, you do have a groudn problem and your tank is running empty.

Believe the speedo cable goes over the mounting point otherwise it will get bent and cause trouble.

Where is the ground that usually causes the instrument problems?

Cool, cheers. I pulled it out again and Ithink maybe the plug wasn't seated properly, all seems okay now. Almost - My speedo needle doesn't seems to decelerate smoothly, it looks like it's kind of sticking on the way back down. In all fairness I did try pulling it off to remove the face so I hope I didn't damage it. I always break more than I fix!!

I always guided myself with the warning lamp till one day I ran out of fuel and no light worked, dismantled the panel the bulb was good put it back on worked for 2 weeks then I ran out of fuel again haha. Need to buy that plastic thing hell I work with BMW parts but there's so much stuff I need to get first.

Did a sprint event at Brands Hatch and knocked a whole second off my personal best by removing the ''performance'' Fritz bits chip and fitting a lower ratio diff. Gaz have also re-developed the e21 rear coilovers and their mountings. I'll post some pics. Was great fun! :)

nothing today but drove about 150 miles yesterday, faultless of course. i also put it up for sale. it ain't a cheap 316 as said in the ad....but it's a peachy one :driving
i also took the spacers off the rear and discovered i really didn't need them on there.....i don't think?? i took the wheels off to clean some grime from out under the arches as is what i usually do before and after every winter to help stop those lovely bright green arches from rusting! if it doesn't sell i'm going to use it as little as possible over the winter.

drove to work and back. after work i cleaned the wheels and dressed the tyres as well as cleaning the chrome trim and sills; emptied anything that was in it and hoovered the interior. tomorrow i shall clean the rest of the car and give it one last application of sealant before it finds its new owner saturday morning (hopefully).

will be a sad day when it goes. still, i've spent a lot on it, but i bought it for a little over £600 and it's going for £2500 so can't complain too much.

i'll be sure to post on here once it's gone. once it's cleaned i may take a few last photos just for keeps-sake. my first car i have truly enjoyed owning.

Ross.
