Nas,
is this going to be a daily?
Or weekend show car???
if the later, then you'll only be getting it out on occasions, and the paint will be fine for the purpose.
If it's a daily, then 2k.
I looked into this for the E30, and opted for 2K for durabilty and ease of repair.

waterbased and clear all the way in my opinion. if someone knows what they are doing its easier to use on repairs, as durable and better for blending. prep has to be spot on though. I only use 2k now for alloy wheels and cheap jobs.

Not a daily but I do love a road trip. I have a Honda for daily duties.
Bit late to change mind about paint now lol.. I'm sure with all that clear it should be durable.

my honda aint that bad - its on coilovers (slammed) - fully loaded 2.4 (the best engine) and its dirt cheap cos it runs on LPG.. i can see why people have a modern bmw, but then all my siblings own them now (they all had audis before), bloody rattling horrible BMW diesel things - I like Jap cars as much as old school beemers.. not only that i am supposed to be the black sheep in my family anyway.Rav320uk wrote:It's all down to personal choice Nas.
Unless your chatting about paint. I have very limited knowledge thats why i let Mal sort all that lot out. I will be being careful with his work lol.

Re: 316 - m52b28 / individual+
Hi guys just want to clear a few things up about The paint.
2K is not banned in the uk!
what they have tried to ban in solvent base coat, the reason is the solvents and the environment (basecoat is 50% thinner). Not for the health of the painter lol
This has been replace by waterbase basecoat (colour). this is a lot better now that it used to be, still not as good as solvent. But solvent base coat is still available and is what is being used on nas's car.
All professional laquer is still 2k ( low bake or new ultraviolet drying ) and no professional painter worth there salt would use 1k (cellouse).
Metalic's, pearls and the new xrillics are not available as solid 2k which is why CoB system was created.
All new cars are CoB.
CoB (clear over base ) is far easier to repair than solid 2k and will last for years (depending on laquer quality) I am using Lechler laquer on nas's wich is a high end product and is as hard as glass once fully cured and polishes extreamley well.
