This pic is taken driversside (LHD), fire bulkhead, next to where the steeringcolumn goes thru.

This is the other side, in the wheelhouse. On the pic, the edge is already taken off.

Because this is a nasty spot, with no less than 4 pieces of metal that overlap, I cleared my donor some more. This piece we will use!
Great progress on the car, it's really starting to come together and look fantastic! Do you have any more pics or info you can provide on this repair you made? I need to tackle this myself and it's a little daunting. Not even sure how I'm going to get in there to fix it. You're the only person I've seen document this repair at all.

Hi Jeff, not sure what your're after, as I have posted all the repair photos, just a couple of posts below the one you quoted.

It woild be nice if you started your own topic, so you can post lots of pics and questions. I am more than willing to help you on the subject.

I did see the other pics, I just wasn't sure if there were more that maybe you haven't posted. Like you mentioned already, this is a spot where 4 pieces join together, so layering up new sections looks to be quite challenging. Just trying to understand and decide how I want to tackle this section.

And yes, I've been VERY bad about starting a restoration thread here. I'll try and get going on that soon so everyone can see what I'm doing!!

OMG! We need some updates here!! Well, I had some older B8 Bilstein shocks on my 323i with Eibach rear and MAD front springs. At the time, some 10 months ago, Bilstein didn’t have replacement B8’s, so I came into contact with a bloke who used to wok at Bilstein Germany and some other shockbuilders. He now owns a company which builds custom shock for racingcars. Superb highend stuff.

As it turns out, that guy, Jurgen, lives nearby, so I dropped my stuff off.

Jurgen took it all apart.

Image

Frontshocks are in good condition.

Image

All they need is a good polish

New grease and ready.

The fastening nut fort he frontleg is also NLA. To bad because the greasewhiper is all worn out. This keeps dust and dirt out of the shock and grease inside, preventing it from leaking

All I could get my hands on was a new rubber ring in a steel cage. So friend Arnold D. machined the nuts to fit and pressed the new rings in.

All up to date!

The rears! All rusted and ugly. Jurgen took them apart and I collected the tubes to refubish.
Blasted and Epoxy

I returned the tubes to Jurgen. He showed me that the rears have 12mm rods, while new ones have 14mm rods.
Before and after polishing

The bearingblock in my old shocks consists of many parts. Modern bearings are one solid piece, but since 12mm instead of 14mm there is no part of the shelf. So I had newones made to size. Old and new.

Image

Image

All in the press and of we go!

Image

When I got everything back home, Jurgen finally found the lower bearings fort he rear shocks. To bad because I had everything nice and new. Putting the new bearings in gave some damage, but I had paint left, so I will repair that.

The last original BMW fastener for the sunroof. This one comes off an e24.

Image

To put the rooflining in, the foam has to go in first. It is glued tot he A and C pillar.

Image

C pillar foam has a pre cut part that has to go because of the popout windows.

Out

And glued in.

Front insulation also glued in.

After that I sorted out the roof parts. I bought some new e30 gliders..

Image

And the other parts I need.

Image

I started with the NOS seal on the plate.

Image

As it turnes out that motherf ^#&*$(!!!! seal is to short. A new one is ordered.
