Uwbuurman: 1978 323i polaris: almost done

On with the popout windows.



I started with the Hofmeisterstrip.



That was a job, more that I bargained for. On the backside should be a foam strip. Couldn’t get it anywhere… finally I found something that looks like the real thing, 1 mm to thick, but I will overcome that.

To get in the lower moulding, I had to use special rivets. The holes i drilled long ago, before the paint.





After that, the plastic holders go on. With type 1 popout windows the lower moulding sits on these things.





Then it was time to cut open the B pillar lining.

To get everything nice and shiny, I bought new hinges and chromeplated nuts and screws.







And so it happened, my car has popout windows.







These caps are NLA, but I have them. It looks great.

With all the windows in, the wiring loom is due. That loom has been tempered with over the years. Some kind of an alarm is fitted, but it doesn’t work. So I’ll get it out.



Wires are cut into the loom.



I soldered the wires over, and put some heatshrink tubing over it.







This I got out of the loom.

After that more attention fort he fusebox. Lot of damage and shortage…





Got the burned wire out.









A piece was sqeezed so bad, that the core burned right trough on both sides.



Soldered a new wire in.



After I got all the crap out, I but new tape on the loom, Tesa Fleecetape. A bit more fluffy than the original tape.

Got the loom back in.

Roof is ready, windows are in, loom is in, all the way to the back. So it is time to start at the back to work my way up front. Starting in the booth.

I started with the seal. First sealant in.



And the seal in.



After the sealant dried, We put in the lid. Friend Jan helped me.







Hinges and torsionbars in place.
