Re: What did you do to your E21 today?
What Jim said. I'm off to look at the one in Scotland tomorrow, got a hire car booked and some time in a garage to get it up on ramps and do a compression test etc. I'm not rushing in though, I can always wait if it's not suitable.drjim wrote:Last I heard from Reck he was convinced his new engine was broken, making knocking noises. Iit could be the timing off plus downpipe only having one bolt holding it onto the manifold etc, but he's gone all negative on the car and looking at rust patches. Add up the cost of fixing the bodywork and you are way past the price of the car in Scotland with the webers on it. Not sure what has happened since.
I'll be retiring my current 316 and it may find life yet as a track monster - there's too much work in it to scrap/sell on. All new suspension, bushes, brakes, gearbox, fuel and brake lines etc. It just needs a solid ticker!

Re: What did you do to your E21 today?
Ok, this is a whole last week's deeds brief:
Tuesday, gave her a good service and replaced the air filter by a new one from webcon, already the news are good, at least the car starts @ 1st shoot now-I experienced a lot of issues with the old one, even when the car was warm...
Thurday I took her to the guy who fitted the new Michelins, after having done just 500km in a bit more than a month's time, because the steering wheel was dancing like crazy from 80kph up to top speed (tested it up to 170kph, no more to go anyway). Whatever he did, he could not balance my front right wheel...Damn Greek Roads!!!!!!!!!! The wheel is hit, and this was revealed with the new tyre...Tomorrow I have to take the car again to the guy in order to send the wheel for straightening it up...
And, the big thing was on Sunday, yesterday...: Finally decided to give HER some time and show my love to her...So I did a long waited operation!!! : Took out the central part of the dash (where the lighter, clock and fan switch can be found on early models) and placed them on a table in my home...Fetched a soldering iron, Alcohol, cotton buds, glues, cleaning brush, screwdrivers etc. and started the operation... After 2-3 hours, I placed the part back in place...Now it is glowing in the dark AS NEW, much better than what I can remember.
Hopefully I will soon upload some pictures from the air filter, and from the operation...!!!!

I am sure that you probably know that scrutineers and not keen on harnesses that drop at more than 45 degrees and thereby rest on the seat uprights especially where the seats recline?
Hope you wouldn't mind my pointing this out? Although I see you have kept the original belts...........

Re: What did you do to your E21 today?
Thanks but MIB is only a road car although the belts will attach to the cage eventually anyway,
Re: What did you do to your E21 today?
The reason they don't like it is that of you have a shunt, the angle of the harness puts a downward loading into your spine and gives you wedge fractures. Relevant for a road car. Mind you I see lots of track cars with harnesses at unfavourable angles, maybe they just haven't crashed yet!

If you're not using the rear seat you could use the top mounting point for the rear seatbelts for the time being

Re: What did you do to your E21 today?
Sunday - Full service (plugs, HT leads, dizzy cap, oil/filter, coolant top up)
Last night - Swapped battery and alternator from old car as they were relatively new and I'd had trouble starting when cold, lights dimming etc. Much better now. Put a new fanbelt on, fixed the front right indicator as the connector plug had broken, greased up my wiper mechanisms as they were running slooowww and put some new blades on - much quicker and quieter now!

Re: What did you do to your E21 today?
Early morning today:
Took the car to the mechanic, took out the front brake pads, and added graphite grease on the backs-where the traces from the pistons pushing are.
Hope to find some time to drive her before Xmas to see if there 's any good result...
