I will be able to let you in and maybe be around for an hour or so, but kitchen etc at a crucial stage where I need to move furniture, paint some newly plastered walls, and do lots more wallpaper stripping this weekend.

Hoping to get down to the workshop tomorrow and get the linkage fitted to the Baur so I can drive my convertible about in the sunshine!

Jim

10AM, gives me time to get up with kids while Sarah has a lie in, should buy me some brownie points. Plus gives Jason time to get down on the tram. I can pick you up from the station if you want.

Awesome, I'll be there. Cheers for the offer, but no worries abut the lift as I don't know what time my tram gets in, plus I'm gonna pop in Aldi for some snacks. :)

See you tomorrow!

Woot, we have progress! Engine is in the car. Not moving under her own power yet, but we're getting closer. :playcar

Right, what did I need again.. ?

E30 conefilter kit.. Something like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/K-N-57i-INDUC ... 45fd7da854

What about the throttle cable?

[edit] Two variants for the K&N filter as per http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Performan ... /564/24116 One is for the 'square air flow mass intake' and one for the 'round air flow mass intake'. Not sure which I have? I know the airbox was square..

My local motor factors also stock a range of 'universal fit' cone filter kits - they any good?

the k+n is nice and you can wash and re-oil (spray with wd40), so you'll never need to buy another one. where as the universal ones, i dont think you can.

throttle wise.
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=13&fg=15
no.20 is whats missing off the throttle body.
but to use it correctly we'd need the e30 cable with the little fittings. then adapt it to the pedal end of the e21 one.
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=35&fg=10
no.14 is the cable. 15, 16, 17 are the little fittings.
whether you can get these off e30zone i dunno. ?????

other wise its a bit of a bodge with a bike cable. which is fine and it'll work.
whichever way you wana go?

that wiring diagram you had is it possible to print off the engine side of it?

I reckon we should bodge it. Getting hold of all that before next Sunday is going to be a PITA - unless Pete has the bits? I've just sent him an email with the above so hopefully he gets back to me soon. Do Halfrauds do the bike cable?

I'll go for the K+N then - Do I need the round or square one off this link? http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Performan ... /564/24116

As far as the diagram goes I'll just print off what I had on my laptop on Sunday - was what you needed on there?

^^^^ airflow meter looks like a round fitting. but without looking/remove it from the airbox i cant guarantee it. hmmmm.

i'll have a look in my shed tomorrow for some bike cables, ive got some somewhere.
if petes got them bits then it'd make a better job of it.

well if you look thru the engine diagrams where ever you see a wire going thru a plug/connector symbol with c101 written next to it.

has jim got a hole cutter for the hole thru the baulkhead?

If you look at a later diagram (from an M40 engined E30 1.8i) the AFM looks square; http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mod ... g=13&fg=15 so I would also guess it's the round one..

bloody hell your right!
that'll be the difference then as the k+n adverts dont seem to differenciate between m10 and m40 lumps despite them both being a 1.8 engine of different year cars.

we would sometimes be a little screwed without realoem wouldnt we!? lol.

It's been known to happen!!

Shweeet. The local motor factors had an ancient K and N catalogue with both in and they're checking availability tomorrow, I'll ring in the morning and let them know. :)

Right, local motor factors can't get one in for 10 days.

The main K&N UK distributor (YN Filters) will only do 4-6 day mail order - they're actually based in a unit just around the corner from my girlfriends parents house in Rossendale, so I emailed them to ask if I could collect or if they would be willing to pop round and drop it off for a tenner. They flat out said no 'no collections and we don't deliver direct to customers'. They're literally less than a mile from her house and probably drive past on their way to and from the unit every day. Terrible customer service!!!

Probably gonna have to be a cheapo universal kit from Halfrauds till I can get a decent one in..

Cheapo one from ebay is cheaper.
