Over here they're pretty easy on the mods front, but pretty strict when it comes to rust, leaks, brakes, exhaust. I'll try a MOT one day to compare

You're better off going to a fabricator and having a stainless system done. A 316 system shouldn't be too pricey.

I've rang a few round here and none seem too interested. One powerflow supplier said 'We don't do petrol 3 series as they resonate too much and we end up taking them off and refunding people'. I'll go to the one Nas uses for his conversions.

I'm a bit worried about the flange between manifold and downpipe - how are they going to fab that? Or do they cut the flange off and just weld the downpipe to the manifold?

They should be able to fabricate the whole system.
