It's a piece of shit but I loved this car. Some says, that Fiat 126 have construction based on the Ferrari:
-engine in the back and RWD,
-place only for two person,
-little boot in the front,
-masses 50/50 (with the driver on board of course),
-Italian engineering,
-enourmous acceleration (0-100 about 1 minute)
-it gives a lot of fun
I love those fiats, very cute cars!!!
i have learned to drive in a fiat 600

My E21 shares its duties with a 1996 Polar silber Porsche 911 (993) Bi-Turbo- which is used regularly- on the autobahns as it was intended to be!
The E21 with its 2.7 litre engine and old style dizzy and K jet still gets better mpg though.....

That is a great combo. But I beg to differ... wasn't the 993 intended to do trackdays? :P U know, it doesn't necessarily take a 964CS or a Carrera RS to get on the track, right?

I'm not sure, I would be too scared to trash the 993turbo, it's worth the best part of 68,000 euros.
Besides it's quite a heavy overweight and softly sprung car relative to the 993 RS or 964 RS. May be I've been listening to the nutters on Pistonheads too long? 4WD doesn't do it any favours on the track either.

Latest expense on this bloody beast has been the Turbo Waste gate vacuum actuators, one of which has rusted a hole in it- will cost 700 Euros for a new one!
Meanwhile the oil leak from the cam covers gets worse - due to the proximity of the Turbo chargers and air cooling. Not an easy job because the turbos are mounted so close to the cam covers! :x

Instead of editing the first post, I thought I would bump this post up :)

We got a new (2nd hand) car last month. Its a Mitsubishi Charisma 1.8 GDI from 1998.
Drives very fine and we're very satisfied with it :)

Good plan Dennis!

A nice occasion to bother you with my thoughts... early next year I need a new company car. As at least the dutchies will know we have to pay income tax over company cars here, as they believe you have an advantage when your boss pays your car... another reason to get extra tax money to waste.

Anyway, because of this extra tax I drive a small car now. A Renault Clio. Doesn't perform too bad with 110 HP in a car that weighs only slightly over 900 kos, and as it isn't too expensive I don't pay too much tax. The other cars cost me enough already

So I just started evaluating alternatives, some of my thoughts, see what you think:

I am concentrating on fuel cars and not diesels. Diesels are more expensive to buy while my employer doesn't care about the fuel bill. And I like to rev!

Alfa Romeo 147: nice styling but not cheap, and all models have traction control and it never shuts off anymore when I'm driving :P besides that I guess it will be replaced... in abt one year? Too old fashioned then, too

BMW, Audi: too expensive IMHO

VW: both expensive and too much 'middle of the road'. Even a Polo GT or GTi is not a real drivers' car.

Jap crap, Citroen & Peugeot: out of the question. Too comfortable and not communicative.

Renault: the Clio became a lot larger & heavier, but the engine remained the same. Much slower than my current car is now.

Fiat: hmmm the Stilo's successor looks nice, but will it be a fun car to drive?

I love the looks of the new Volvo C30 but with some options added it will be too expensive.

Which leaves me with the following favourites at first thought:

Ford Fiesta 2.0 ST: a true drivers' car. Perhaps a bit small, but sporty it is.

Mini One: if you give it a power chip it will outperform the stock Cooper version, fast enough for a daily driver. Not the fastest car and not the most practical, but a fun machine.

Seat Ibiza 1.8 VT FR: there's a sporty car but the most expensive of the cars I've selected now. That might be quite some money for a small car.

Then I found the Ford Focus 2.0 rally edition: affordable, packed with all the fun extra's, quite fast, spacious and a well sorted suspension. I've always had a problem with Fords and I have had my most scary driving experiences in Fords but this time they make me think... both these Fiesta and Focus versions.

Apologise for those from -for example- the US or Australia... you probably don't know any of these cars :P

Anyone have some nice thoughts on this subject?

<<oops>>

Haven't had that one here for over 20 years :P

Well have to... I'm allowed to spend up to EUR 35K but I definitely do not want to go anywhere near that... the cars I'm currently looking at are abt EUR 22-24K.

Hard to compare though, car prices differ so much throughout Europe!

My mother drives the new VW polo GTI 150HP and my father also drives most of the times in it besides his Audi RS4 420HP and both aren't complaining about it!
Only thing to complaine is the 'soft' suspension.

Thanks for the input. What I read, as I haven't driven this one yet:

-interior is dull and finish quality is only so-so (plasticy)
-suspension is too soft for a GT(i)
-steering is too vague

In a direct comparison in the dutch Autoweek a few weeks ago they found the Fiesta ST much more of a drivers car, for a lot less money. Hmmmm.
