It takes a bit of getting used to, when you drive wearing a helmet. It can feel a bit claustrophobic, especially with the visor down. I know some folk prefer an open-face helmet, but personally I like the idea of being protected should the screen go through. I also got a nomex balaclava and stopped sweat getting in my eyes. It can get extremely warm belting round a track!

Go pro - i was looking them. that would be excellent if you can bring it .

over the weekend, i have been wearing it and nothing else lol.

I know what you mean, its snug in there and im not used to wearing them. I suppose you don't notice it if you wear it a while. yeah i know what you mean though, it does restrict breathing a bit but it has a vent which helps, im gonna be having the cold air blasting in when im on the track.

If you use that jack alot make sure to keep an eye on the nuts and bolts that hold it together i have the same jack and they can work loose, liberall amounts of locktight has done the trick so far

Agreed, I havie it too, and it works well, but the tightness and quality of the fixings isn't amazing.

firstly many thanks to DrJim for lending me the r888's, - legendary status for you mate.

so before I left for the track day I got prepared, changed my oil and filter, checked my coolant etc. got my mostly used tools and my jack in the boot and washed and packed DrJims wheels. Started on the 3+hour journey to Bristol the night before, stayed at my parents as its only half an hour from castle combe.

Got up very early in the morning and then headed off with my older brother following in his car as my support / pit crew. First thing when I got there was to pass the noise test, I was really nervous about this, as castle combe is very strict and has 100db limit. luckily my car was 95db at 4.5k revs. I thought that the track briefing would be boring, the chap giving us all the run down was actually a very entertaining individual.

I spent some time in the morning adjusting my suspension - raised it and firmed it up a little then changed the wheels over, checked my pressures, and then joined the queue to go on track. Once on the track I did a couple of laps to get used to it and warm up my tyres. Then I did several hot laps. I quickly started appreciate the level of grip I had and I was easily able to pick my lines and get the apexes.

During the second stint I was actually brave enough to start really pushing and i passed a few people in dedicated track cars , once i pitted in I noticed that I had a bit of valve tick and then went to check my oil. I found that oil had got past the breather and it was all over my shiny bay - defo need a oil catch tank also I had started to hear my cv joints knock on really really hard cornering during the last two laps. Fearing that I might snap one and have to suffer the indignity of being stretchered off, I topped up my oil and refitted my road wheels and called it a day.

Next time I go to a track day I think I need another 100hp and much more stiffer springs. however, my e21 is primarily a road car and it might be worth building something that is more dedicated for the track in the first place?

I met some really, really nice people at the track - my neighbours in the paddock were absolute legends also it was nice to catch up with Ben, Mark, Woody and Si, Tommi and Hannah + their friend (name I forget)

r888's are awesome, I don't have any in car footage and my older brother was taking pics but I had a look and he is much worse at taking pics then I am.

Took the 02 for a blast down the M4, to watch Nas make his Castle Combe debut. I went in the wrong entrance, but got to drive around the access road and watch him go by on a few corners. Exhaust sounded good, without being overly loud.

Was nice to catch up with a few of the guys and meet Si. Tommi in his yellow peril 02 and I missed Woody but saw him polishing his car from a distance! Si's 2.5 powered car is really nice, with it's ''well used'' outward appearance and super clean engine bay and underneath. In fact, I think there were 4 or 5 e21 at the same venue! Hopefully we can get a few more together at one of the summer events?
