While I was working on the trim on the car, I made plans on the engine. I took apart the old engine, to determine whats good and what not.

Since I want to do the classic 2.7 conversion, I scored the 2.7 eta crank shaft, conrods and hopefully the right pistons. So, my enige will be all original on the outside, better intestents, though.

So why this conversion? I figured that since I will take apart the complete engine, it doesn't matter which parts I stick back in there.

All taken apart

Very dirty lower block

And washed

To find out the the pistons are ok, usable but not the right ones to go with the 885 head. These pistons live on in a Belgium 323i Baur, 2.7 with 731 head.

So I broke my piggybank, again. 6 brand new original BMW b25 pistons. Original size, "0" size, so 83,98mm pistons. Hollow head, instead of the flat old ones.

Since I was in the middle of a damn shoppingspree..... I bought a Schrick camshaft 272°/272°, Ireland Engineering m20 heavy duty rockers, a Catcams adjustable cam shaft wheel and ofcourse a couple of double valve springs.

Did you use a 323 block and rebored it to 84mm cylinders, or is it a 325/327 block you used?

Thanks, Rob!!

Wanted to use my b25 block, but that was in crappy shape. Pistons and bore were gone. So had to scrap that one. Did use the b25 head, the 885 head.

Augustus 2017 I used to put the doors in my car. Jan groentje_me helped me. That looked like this.

Image

When we put in the right door, it was perfect alined whitin 5 minuts.

Image

Even seams aroud.

Image

As easy as the right side went in, left was a hell to get it in...

Image

Image

Even seams, great fit, but lower and upper side were crappy.

Image

Image

With half a kilo of shims we've managed to get it close to perfect.

Image

Image

Image

And just because I could, fitted my thick electric mirrors.

Image

After soaking for a few weeks, I decided that that stupid left door wolas not how I wanted it. So I calld Jan, and we started all over again.

The doors have nice bling mirrors, corners painted gloss black, but the door handles didn't fit in that. So I got them painted.

Stripped

And I finished the pump from the powersteering

And thwn, she was back in my shop, in the spot where I was going to finish my build. This is August 2017.

In September '17, I worked on the engine. The block was ready for paint. Two layers of epoxy primer and two layers of epoxy black.

Only one thing has been done to the block is hohning. Thats it. Still "0" size.
