Just check the rear sub frame, however i doubt it very much. Fritz's were really the pioneers of this conversion and to think someone did that conversion in 82, seems too impressive for that period. Also, an e12 diff for a 2.3 would have been over kill, especially when E21 LSD's back in '82 would have been cheap.

that hartage had done this type of conversion before... to handle the power/ torque of the m30.. and that an m30 conversion would require similar modification.. rear subframe and mounting.. he had tried it on a 315 that was sitting in vast warehouse before they moved.. but this was never a runner....
a bmw tech at heathrow had good look over mine and was happy to see the e12/e24 lsd on the rear of mine.. and his words were "thats like the twr335i's i used to work on".....
Fritz is the only people i know of doing the conversion now mind...

i would do it for free if i had access to a welder. the subframe is relativly easy jut requires lots of welding, its the diff mounts which are tricky, to get the decent diff mount in place you need to cut a small section out of the spare wheel well and then put in a recess for the mount, would need access to a ramp and a welder really and about a day,

i remember building about 4 rear beams but only fitting 2 so i guess could be yours. i remember having a shocking tan on my arms after because i was welding for so long.
2 of the beams that i built the old man set up wrong so had to cut them all apart and start again which took fricking ages but got it done in the end.
some of the E12 diffs where a little unique so although a jig worked most of the time sometimes the really old diffs didnt quite line up in the holes n required fetteling, most of the time it was the ones with little pumps or coolers on the side i think
oh and may be investing in a welder very soon as it seems rather critical for project panzer so i may be able to build rear axles again

Hopefully it won't be too much longer till my car comes back from RPM.RetroBeemer wrote:Turns out my chrome mirrors were early e12 one's so I can finally get the correct mounting rubbers and fit them - when I finally get my car back.
The hold up has been parts. A couple of stainless pistons have had to be fabricated for the Volvo calipers and a rebuild kit is on route from Germany for the e12 528 brake master cylinder. I'm looking forward to seeing how the calipers have been mounted. I know Dave was looking to engineer an alternative solution to just slotting the mounting holes.
I was hoping to take my car to Bimmerflex but its not looking likely so I'm just waiting for the track day at Bedford instead.
Seems even longer than the 6 weeks its been away.
