Cheers. I'll check that out now.

Evidently you bolt the calipers on the other side but I'll have to either measure for clearance or just offer the rim up and check?

Yeah but if you have a disk which is 20mm bigger the caliper has to move 10mm upwards

also having to bolt the caliper on the other side of the lugs will mean the caliper will hit the wheel spoke wise too wont it.

New Mini discs vent straight on. All of models has the same discs. Well actually looked at catalog and see, that there are also 280mm discs for super trooper Mini's. You need the one with 276mm. But there are couple of thing maybe even few

:
* as I said you need to bolt caliper on other side of strut this makes one anoying issue. hard to screw in bolt as it has to be screwed with brake disc on. But as Volvo calipes divides in two just like e21 calipers you can divide them, attach caliper, put on brake disc and attach other side of caliper. simply don't loose ruber seal rings between caliper sides. if caliper is used, maybe even change those rings.
* other issue is with center of brake disc. On Mini it is few mm bigger. so to hold this disc in place you have to make a ring which centers the disc
* and the last thing you might do on do not is drill the hole for little screw which holds the disc to the hub.
In this picture you can see the space between hub and disc center hole. Also a new hole for screw to hold the disc.
and thats it
Forgot one more thing. Remembered that I did very little grinding of caliper where disc goes in. but very little. But maybe you shouldn't have such problem as probably it was caused by roughness of caliper casting.
Thats it.

Splitting a calliper to fit it and machine disks which are about the same size as stock I am just not seeing the plus side

I must admit, the more I'm looking into this, the less benefit I can see as well. I think I'm just going to leave things as they are although I do plan to actually remove the vent holes on my spoiler and run some cool air ducts to the brakes.
Apart from that my 2.7 should be ready to drop in next week. I'm going to do the sensible thing and fit a new cambelt & water pump while it's out of the car and slap some paint on the block to make it look pretty. I'll resist the urge to paint it orange though! I would like to fit the alloy rad and Samco hoses though. It'll be getting the 6 branch bolted on and I want to shield the air filter from the rest of the engine bay too.
One thing - is there any real benefit to wrapping manifolds or is that really just for balls out race engines?

Hi
Yes there is a benifit, it keeps the under bonnet temp down whuch helps and keep the exhuast gasses hot which means they fow faster and you get better volumetric efficiency for the engine, how much HP is this worth I have no Idea.

and having a cooler under bonnet temperature creates a lower intake temperture, which gives you slightly more power.

You wont feel masssive gains by wrapping the exhaust but as said, underbonnet temps will be little lower!!, to be honest not worth the trouble for the money the wrap costs cos your no gonna gain alot in HP so its money for small gains... Mark, what pistons are you using in the 2.7 build?
Like the feature in the Total BMW page 19!!! well sweet!

worth wrapping the exhaust if you do end up going down the supercharger route as the exhaust gas temps are going to be alot higher.
high intake temperatures can be killed by using decent ducting from the front
some of the turbo lemans cars have seperate chambers around the manifolds with inlets and exhausts so that none of the exhaust temps go into the engine bay/inlet, very clever really but big money and prob not worth it on an e21

Bolted the 6 branch on today and was surprised at the difference it made. Sounds very different too!

Well done mark!! you notice more midrange fitting the 6 bramch, the 0-6- is slight not massive but still noticable!! nice one, whens the next ace, im abit out of touch on the dates, ill be bringing out my car to loosen the pistons alittle, dont want the car to experiance any aches and pains as im looking to thrash the bastard for what its worth!! oops didint mean to swear but doing what the car was designed to do and ill grin all the way.. ooooh love that porsche 911 997( face lift ) thats on my list ....

glad the manifold has made a difference, I only got to drive it on a miss firing fuel starved engine!
it is a bitch to put on/get of lucky when I did it I didnt have to worry about smashing the fuel filter etc
