We did it at PhilJ's place near Guilford.

Once we'd had 3 attempts, then taken off the oil filter, then taken off the engine mount and lifted the engine up a few inches, it was still a pig to get in!

I think Monday is the Ace cafe Jimmy? I'll bring the old manifold & seat over and you can get the tea in.

Might look at wrapping or ceramic coating dependent on costs.

Hardly looked to have had much use so I reckon so. The car they came off was from Exeter way when Stevo bought it iirc so that's their part of the world.

I'm still surprised at how much quieter it is that the stock manifold. The exhaust has a more metallic sound too. That said, I still think they're bloody expensive!

With regard to fitting the Mini One discs it seems that, if I have understood correctly, it means the mounting holes do not have to be slotted to fit the calipers. It does mean clearance needs to be checked under the wheel though as the caliper will be mounted further out slightly.
I'm still really happy with the increased braking the Volvo calipers have given me.

Just a thought but do 2002tii calipers not fit an e21 then?

i know that e12 calipers bolt onto and 02 too give 4 pot upgrade, but also on an 2002 you can mount 2 pairs of callipers to each disk as they have mounting holes on both sides, have a feeling that they are not compatible with e21 though.

as for the exhaust ceramic coating would cost you a fair amount more but will last longer and look a lot nicer, you can get it in many colours aswell including orange!!!

ceramic coating also works a lot better than wrapping

I went and had a nose around this genuine Group 5 race car yesterday after I stubled across it on another website whilst looking for parts.

Image

This is how it looks now.

Image

BMW 320i Group 5 race car as raced in the German DRM series by privateer Gustav Fischer in 1978 with 2 litre BMW M12 engine.

This actual car was built by Fischer from the write off works car crashed by Eddie Cheever at round 1 in 1977.

The car was then sold to Gerhard Reiss and it appears he raced this car on the Mountains.

In 1981 this car was purchased by Kenneth Liem and raced in the Silverstone 1000 KM race. It also qualified for the Spa race but the event was abandoned due to torrential rain.

Leim did not race the car again and in 1984 it was sold to his team mates son Christer Simmonsen to race in Sweden in local saloon car races. It then sold to a number Finnish drivers to race in domestic club events the last driver being John Westerman.

The car was not raced for many years prior to coming to the UK

It was really interesting to be able to take a look at just what was done to convert the e21 shell to race spec'. This car was actually damaged on it's maiden factory debut but was bought and rebuilt by a privateer and was back on the circuits the following season.
The owner has been kind enough to supply me with the cars history and photo file including You Tube footage of it in action. I'll do a bit of a write up once I've gone through it all.

I've got harnesses in my car but only for track-days really. I just wondered if I have to remove them for the MOT test? They are currently mounted on the same bolts as the inertia belts. Do the passenger belts have to be the same? I'm getting another harness from Rob when I go over next week. It's just a bit of a pain if I have to keep taking them out but I don't want to have to wear them on the road either.

You can get MOT'd with harnesses no problem.

Where have you attached the shoulder harnesses to??
