A few weeks ago we decided that our Pastellblauer E12 is way to much fun and that she has to stay. So for protecting her agains the elements we decided is was time to build a roof above her head, in another word, we're building a carport for her.
Our E12 is now 15 years in our posession, and the last 7 years she has lived outside all the time. no protection against wind, snow, frost or rain at all.
A week before xmas i've gathered some i beams and square iron tubing for a stirdy framework. the i120 steel beam will be the girder and the square tubing will be the posts for our carport.
On the girder come 11 wooden beams to support the roof.
These are the i beams which will support the roof, laying next to the car on the driveway:
And these two square tubes welded together in a V shape post will support the i-beam
next i've mounted some wooden girder to the wall of our house, they will support the wooden beams:
All wooden beams are painted before installation. because its winter the paintwork is done inside:
Here the V shape post is placed, when the frame is perfectly aligned i'll pour a concrete foundation to support the post:
Next we (me and my wife) placed the i beam on top of the V post and welded it together, before that i've welded the two i beam pieces in the right angle together,
the two wooden beams are temperarely support:
Here the concrete foundation is poured and hardened, the framework stands, pouring was done at second Xmas day:
First wooden beams placed, it's freezing cold outside:
And a layer of snow on top of it, the bad weather makes slow progression:
V-post in concrete protected with tectyl:
V-post and beam painted gray, but needs another layer (or two):
And in a sunny weekend in januari this year i've placed all other beams:
And this weekend i've placed the roofing, it started with snow again. The OSB plates were painted white before placement:
and a finished carport:
So finaly has " der Pastellbauer " a roof above her head
