Stripped the sound deadening off the rear parcel shelf and engine bay firewall, and tried to remove the remnants of the roof lining glue. Prepared the rear wheel arches, and put the first coat of paint on. Just ordered a cheap tubular manifold to use as a base for a decent set of extractors.

Anyone who has problems designing modern vehicle headlining leading to sagging needs to look at an E21. Nothing shifts that glue! Not even after 32 years in the New Zealand sun.

Yesterday : 1st "track day" experience...!!

mainly trying to drift in a wet cirlce, but in vain...
And just three or four laps in a track, trying to find the best lines
it certainly needs more power, a lsd, and a thicker ARB (or strut bar) to the rear: this is the conclusion from the day)

Interested to see how+if it works!
It seems everybody is trying to dissuade me from doing it...

Collected Herman from Man Shed in preparation for informal rally on Sunday- which is Classic Drive it Day across British Isles

We have 5 out of our 6 children arriving at weekend- something about a fishing trip I have promised them pollock fishing off the calf of Man (too early for mackerel) - so will need 2x Classics to get them all in! Going to use both "BMWs"
Everyone is being encouraged to use their classics on 14th April

Started almost first time- have something stuck in front brake - when I got home
Forgot how lairy it is when exiting a damp intersection!

I took battery for testing and recharging.
Bad news. Dead battery. 3.65 V and 134 Ah of output.
Good news. I have a warranty. :D

Past weekend (just back last evening)
2 days trip to Monemvassia, to the south of Peloponnese. About 700 km from Athens to there and back.
No probs at all (only a tyre losing pressure which turned out to be nothing but bad roads)
And about 9.8~10.0 lt/100 km, on spiritual, rather than economic driving! Which I think is not bad, for its years (36), and mods I have done (weber and 195/50/15 tyres)

cancelled our participation in classic rally due to huge storm that hit us early Sunday morning

then discovered couldn't get Herman to start- left on charge and then got it going later Sunday evening - sorted out sticking brake (which had stuck back on)

On the bright side the fishing trip was great fun - no Mackeral (too early) but Pollock v glad we went out Saturday in the boat before the storm

Now using Big Red as daily driver to and from work since GF arrived in van from UK with cold frames and assorted garden stuff (masses) - she needs my MG
Hoping to retrieve CJ Jeep with broken driveshaft and swap with Herman so that pre Manx Classic upgrades are fitted this week - the workshop is stuffed full of Caterhams all vying for class wins and wanting to fit new parts before event.
