An E30 gearbox doesn't have the speedo output for E21s, just to let you know.

Don't believe every thing you read
how do you stop the swarf going into you new expensive gear box
how can you be sure that the speedo drive will fit.
I have have only ever seen it done on a 265 box that was going into 2002 m2 conversion that was being rebuilt at the time.
So would check with you local vintage getrag gearbox workshop first

Hello Jason
Thanks for your comments. I was going to get a proper gearbox company to fit the speedo drive for me. I guess they would recondition it at the same time. Going back to my original question, the gearbox on the For Sale section has the following numbers 242029101 225 7.3. Is this a dogleg. Without it being fitted to a car, i want to be sure it is a dogleg without just taking the sellers word for it.

You should be able to select the gears without the box being in the car anyway. Obviously that doesn't guarantee the box' condition but that's something any of us should agree upon prior to buying used parts.

I know what you mean but i travelled from Derbyshire all the way to warwick to look at a box and when i got there, it was a standard 5 speed hence why i got the numbers from the seller this time.

I'm sure one of the guys here will be able to confirm but a quick Google search of the first numbers suggest it's correct.
Here you go. Pictures too!
