what is up with my hazard switch!!?

and no...it doesn't keep popping out (believe it or not!)

basically....picture this...it's a morning, nice and cool air temp. i put my lights on, all is well, the hazard switch is illuminated as it should be. if i press the hazard switch, the light blinks on and off. all fine, and well with all things in the world, and my hazard switch.

it turns into the afternoon, no longer does my hazard switch illuminate, and the same goes for the evening. if i put my lights on, my hazard switch doesn't light up. i press it, you can here it "clicking" and the indicators flash on and off, but the button light doesn't flicker on and off.

it turns morning again, and all is well with my hazard switch. now, this afternoon, it doesn't work again.

what the f***? i want this sorted, and no flicking light for the hazard button = MOT fail.
i took the vent off the top of the dash and tried pushing the thing in further, but no success.

thanks for any help guys.

If you will not get the problem fixed you must go to your MOT early in the morning then

take it out, cover it in over ripe bananas and jump on it 16 times with wellies on, give it a golden shower to wash the off squashed bananas..... then refit.

Weird. Maybe the light bulb is about to die. Hanging on it´s last string. Try replacing it. Or put a LED in it. I wouldn´t worry too much about the MOT fail, most garagists don´t check those kind of things.

well...

again, today i pushed the switch out and sprayed a very small amount of Bilt Hamber ferrosol (think WD40 on steroids) on each of the bits where the wire contacts go into the plastic bit, then around the metal contacts which go into the switch, wiggled the red button around a little, put back in and hey presto it seems to be working....even in the evening. time will tell tomorrow though!!

for what it's worth, if anyone rates WD40, bin it and get ferrosol

Corroded terminals. I think Murrans remedy is the best one or just book your MOT for the morning.

found out what it is...

pushed the button out so it was on, unscrewed the red button part and the small bulb behind it has a loose connection, just touching the light slightly is enough to make it flash on and off, or not work at all.

if i get any more problems, it's phone bmw for a 4th hazard switch for warranty replacement. sure, it's only a dodgy connection, but it's not old, replaced in february, so it's not acceptable in my opinion.

any ideas for a solution, other than yet another replacement?

thanks
