How do i find out the thread size of the connections to the automatic transmission oil cooler part of my radiator?
I want to fit a seperate oil cooler for the auto transmission fluid so i need to find out what the thread is so i can get connections for cooler.

out of interest why do you need a second oil cooler for the transmission is your bmw one not doing the job? you adding more clutch plates or what not? thats what they do in autos isnt it or sumin?
best thing to get the sizes is find your local hydraluic company and they will be able to measure it for you

Getting an aluminium radiator built. As the car wont be an auto forever (fingers crossed!) i dont want to have a built in automatic transmission cooler for it to become redundant later on. As auto oil and manual engine oil is very different, so are the oil coolers, im told. So even if i needed/wanted to i couldnt cool the engine oil through it after i swappwd from auto to manual.
So in the mean time i want to get a crappy 2nd hand auto oil cooler and bolt it onto exisiting lines. Thats why i need to find out what thread it is.

is this the type of thing you are talking about fitting?
i'm not sure what it is doing on my car as i havent traced back where the lines attached to it go.. but i know it is leaking a bit of oil along the way. the odd thing is my auto transmission has the pipes going to the radiator so not sure what this coil thing is? it doesnt have threaded connections, you can see they are just hose clamped on.
i'll have a better look tomorrow to see what it connects to.

Must be engine oil cooler
Planning on fitting anything in meantime that will do the job. The hoses coming from my gearbox have threaded ends, i need to find cooler with (18mm 1.5 pitch) threads then im sorted!
Was told by a few rad companies, the design of an engine oil rad and auto trans fluid rad are different. I want rid of combined unit to maximise on capacity for engine coolant alone.

i checked and that coil in the image is just connected in series with the radiator pipe connections so the oil goes through the radiator then up to that coil and back to the gear box, or vise versa.
i think i'll remove it, or would it be beneficial to the auto gearbox to have additional cooling for the oil? (i would have thought the rad cooling would be enough)
