as you know, having the E30 seats in the back leaves a naff looking gap. is there a relatively cheap fix? what about stuffing foam or something down the back, and putting newer carpet over the top of said foam and behind the seat (obviously it'll cover the rear parcel shelf too)

any other ideas?

Do you mean the gap between seat base and the back? If so, it depends if you want something that just looks ok or something people can sit on and not spoil the illusion? Just popping some foam squares under the base should lift it enough and you could bring the bottom of the seat back out the same way. I still have yet to finish my e30 rear properly and need to remove some of the internal wire supports so that I can make the seat back about 20mm narrower on each side. At the moment it curves a little in order to fit. The other option is that I make a new parcel shelf that comes out slightly at each end and covers the gap? My cars not here right now so I can't show you any pics of what I mean. A cabrio seat is narrower, but a bit too narrow. You're left needing to fill the gap on each side although it's easy enough to do with a piece of carpet.

good idea with the parcel shelf, might get some wood and a jigsaw cutter, make a template of the shape it needs to be and then get some more carpet and that would be fine, i'd have thought.

but what colour carpet do i get that wouldn't look silly? i have a sort of, faded brown effect at the moment

black acoustic carpet from your everyday stereo shop or halfords is good bid

if not a really cheap option is to use felt, cut out a larger mdf templet from the existing parcel shelf then go to hobby craft and pick what ever colour you want, they got tons and its very stretchy and easy to shape to your needs
