Tachometer doesn't work

Hey mates, about two years ago, I had not started up my car for about a month. It was summertime. The tach was dead and had worked previously. I took out the pod and saw that a spider had wound a cocoon between the tach needle and face plate. Yup, pretty darn funny. I pulled out the tach and cleaned it and put it back into the pod and into the car. The tach worked fine, but odometer stopped working at that time. Last week, I decided to get a "new" "used" instrument pod panel, the whole deal. The tach in this pod is now is erratic (bounces around when raining)or just dead. Also, the brake lining light is "on". Any suggestions for a fix? Thanks in advance for your time.

whats that thread from ages ago? "you know you own an e21 when......"
you take out the dash pod and see that a spider has wound a cocoon between the tach needle and face plate.

on a more serious note, if these specific problems werent in the old "used" dash pod then i suspect there is a dry joint or other loose connection somewhere in the new, just as "used" dash pod....... as is the problem with s/h used electrical components....... your quite often just buying new different problems.

I called several dealerships and they were kind to give me the part # for the instrument pod. But they report none in stock. nothing in germany. no more new assemblies. it's an awesome, handling car. Oh yeah, I now have a new clutch. the first one ever, the original lasted from build date 11/1982. i burned tires today. :D

Hey mates,
I bought another instrument pod and want to adjust the odometer mileage. It reads 179,000 and I need it to match my current mileage. 198,000 before I put it in.
Any instructions? Thanks.
