i've been a f*** idiot - changed the oil, and forgot to put the filler cap back on, and now i've driven about 30miles and can't find the f*** thing. luckily, the oil pressure seemed ok and the engine sounded fine (oil level still fine also) but i don't want to drive the car again until i can get one for obvious reasons.

if someone has one, please, please let me know asap. ring me on 07852 198525. going to ring the local auto-factors and bmw dealer tomorrow to see if they can get one quickly.

didn't put in wanted section (i know...sorry) but it's really, really urgent. i need the car back very shortly, or i'm stuffed.

thanks

Ross.

I did that at a trackday, covered the inside of my engine bay with oil! That's why I carry two spares now.

You could just cover the oil filler with plastic or something.

Rob will have some.

Im 99% sure you can use other bmw filler caps. Saw an m10 with an m42 or m50 cap.

Ive lost caps loads so dont feel too bad, driven quite far without one but it is messy!

hi guys, thanks for the responses. yes, it seems caps are universal...the cap from my dads E92 M3 fits...when i realised that i was quite a bit happier. i phoned the dealer and i'm getting one in for midday from them. it's only a few quid so no worries there. going to pick that up later and then thoroughly degrease my petrol cap :D :D
