Hello I've had a quote today for some bodywork and spray on my car.
What do people think of £400 for all the bits below? Hopefully the link will work
Thanks, Alan

Depends. If they're gonna cut all the rot out, let new metal in and then paint to match, I reckon 400 is pretty cheap! If it's a quick fix with filler, well itt might be more expensive in the long run.

He reckoned they'd make a proper job of it i.e. he said he didn't want to use filler but they'd properly repair it for the long term. I was expecting it to be more expensive too.
Ta for feedback

I don't know how they can do it for £400.. Mine isn't quite as bad as yours for rust - I have a couple of small patches round the windows and the edge of the rear arches are starting to bubble and I was quoted £600-£700 from two different shops.
Would oyu mind posting the results up on here when done? If they make a good job of yours I'll consider them as I'm Manc based too.
[edit] If there's any doubt re them using filler or metal, make sure you get a written quote specifying materials to be used.

Hmmm that's got me thinking now. I spose one thing is that he's just gonna spray small parts of the car such as half panels, etc. It will look different but the car won't ever look perfect so i thought it best just to take care of the affected areas and not respray the whole car. The quote he gave was off the top of his head rather than written down. He broke it into around £150 for paint work and around £250 for bodywork.
I'm not sure about it now but I think I'll go and have another chat with him about it anyway.
Will definitely keep posted

The rear under bumper panels are available as repair panels for about a tenner, they are easy to weld on - spot welds and partially hidden by the bumper. It'll need the glass out and repairs to the rusty bits, but once you get going if you aren't spending an hour doing it once a week like me, you can sort it pretty quick.
With regard to the paint colour, as long as it's all approx the same now he'll be able to match to the existing paint to get a good match. Polish the rest up and it'll look great.
It turns out that Alan went to see the place I suggested but they had closed down, he was then advised to go to somewhere up the road which just happened to be my unit! The bodywork guy being my mate Shaun, who discussed the job in hand whilst taking a peek at my Baur - the world is small and full of coincidences. I don't know the guy Shaun has recommended for this but I'll look into it at the weekend when I see him.

good stuff. It is indeed a small world. I was fairly taken aback when I saw the E21 in there!

BAck on the horse with the bodywork thing. Now that I've changed a water pump 'all by myself' I'm going to get someone who knows what they are doing to sort the bodywork
What do people think of this guy?
http://www.cordobacarbodyworks.co.uk/ Looks genuine enough. I've had a chat with him, sent him some photos and he's emailed me a very extensive list of works and he reckons £450-£600 including painting but he'll have to see inside the driver's door to confirm how badly it's rusted. His work looks pretty good I reckon.
If anyone could let me know what they think that'd be great
By the way the affected parts are in the link at the start of this thread

Awesome price.. Gallery pics look impressive aswell. Like I say, please post up results when finished! Soon as my suspensions overhauled I need to sort out niggles on the body before they get worse.

HI Reck, went and met the guy, seems alright and we've agreed on 2 stages of bodywork, depending on how long I want to keep the car.
Phase 1, starting 18th August. Rear part of car and more essential works
Remove rear bumper and straighten out crash damage which has been filled years ago, then replace with original bumper which is sat in my shed

Fix holes and rust damage around the windows so he'll pop windows out, properly cut all rust out and weld new bits on (he's promised me photos of each stage too)
Fix hole in boot which was patched for MOT. He wasn't happy with the rough welding job and reckoned worth spending the money getting it sorted as it's just below the wheel arch, near the fuel pipe and things could get bad in that corner with splashing from tyres.
Spraying of all areas worked on.
He's quoted me £5-600 for this work which sounds fair enough to me and reckons it'll take 2 weeks.
Stage 2..sometime in the future, front end, not-as-essential works
Replace driver's door skin. He doesn't want to use a second hand skin as he reckons there will always be some rust so what he wants to do is either make a new skin or get me to buy a 'new' one which would be the cheaper option.
Both front wings have some rust on the on the bottom part so he reckoned he would make bits for that and weld them on.
We spotted that the bonnet was pushed back a little due to a front-ender and the bonnet itself has filler in so the thing to do would be to take off the bonnet and 'bend' back the bits which were put out of place, then either repair or replace the bonnet and then possibly give her a spray.
Then she'll be pretty much there! Mint interior, good bodywork, low mileage, clean chassis and underneath, might even be worth a few quid!
Any comments or whatever let me know as I'm new to this malarky but it all seems pretty logical and straighforward as far as I can make out
Nice one

Sounds like a cheap job and an honest and thorough bloke! I'd still look for good new wings rather than get them repaired, as they'll only go again eventually.

Shweeeet! Ta for the update. I'll have to come and have a look in the flesh when it's done. I went on the website again and it says he's fully booked till the end of August.
Nowt to add other than what Arshad said really. The wings are a bolt on job and cheap enough when they come up, might aswell replace than mess about. You gonna get it rustproofed when done?

I'd replace the wings with new, not certain about the fit of my Hadrian wings, especially drivers side, but that could be down to me fitting them rather than the panels themselves.
As to bonnet, I have a good condition rust free one from the slug in the workshop. Don't think I'll be needing it.
