Just joined in preperation for the imminent arrival of my 1980 323i Baur TC1....hopefully its on its way as I type.
Being the wrong side of 40, and having recently been made redunant, I currently am a house husband, looking after ny young son whilst my Wife goes to work.
The culimination of all the above has sparked a minor mid-life crisis, which manifested itself with me selling my perfectly capable, albeit slightly bland Seat 20tdi.
In replacement I bought a 86 Typ 85 Audi 2. GT coupe....unfortunately, this was illfated. Despite my Wife telling me she hated it, and would not go in it..I ignored her and of course I just assumed she would come round...she has not!!!
So, after some deliberation and negotiation, criteria for a suitable replacement was decided upon. A 4 seat opentop sporty car. So ended up being a a toss up between a Lancia Beta Spyder 2.0 or the Baur.
Having owned ( breifly ) a Spyder before, I knew it was not without certain issues, certainly more so that the BMW...and having restored several 2002 previously, I roughtly knew what I might expect with the 323
So my head said go with the BMW...My wife of course prefered the pretty Beta, but is happy with the BMW as 2nd choice ( for her ).
I hope it will prove a decent buy, the car seems very sound, has low mileage and a full BMW service history.
So I wait with anticipation the arrival of my new car...and hope that I can sell the Audi before it arrives, else I suspect more evenings of frosty silence will ensue.
I will be sure to post some pics, once its here, and will now doubt be on here a lot, asking questions, gleaning knowledge, and undoubtedly spending money on parts etc..
Best regards Keith
EDIT. Chassis No is ( i think ) WBA18320007250223 and Baur No A 1266-11.

Welcome to our little community,Keith.I wonder. If you had bought the Beta would a few Italians have welcomed you?I think not!
A Baur automatically gets you friends and free holidays in Holland.

No, sadly not...and its a lot a car for £1500...
Plus looks like the seller of the Baur is less than scrupulous....I am still awaiting delivery, he is getting increasing difficult to contact, and I am getting increasingly angry.
He has promised delivery by 12 today, after some strongish words...I am not hopeful.
Here sits a very unhappy man.

Well its here....actually turned up on Friday before 12....
Stupidly I had paid up front, and purchased from about 50pics and a lengthy chat, being used to parting with cash over various internet forums on trust..I did the same in this instance...doh!
Seller was, well shall be say liberal with the truth and obviously not shy at embellishing.
Some of you may have seen it on Ebay. It was the one in Folkstone from a
dealer, ( read dishonest t**t )
So car is worse that I thought..FSH is sketchy..though is there sort of I suppose...but I should have known better. Thats the effect of the mid-life crisis, prone to rash ( read expensive ) decisions.
Anyway...upbeat as always...I have spent the weekend checking, cleaning, inspecting, dismantling and I have better idea of what I have taken on..
I will stick pics up later, with a brief rundown, and will be posing questions to those of you emminently more knowledgable.
I have found some old photos of the 2002 tii, so will scan them and post those also...why oh why did I sell that one I wonder???

According to your Baurnumber it must be a polaris 323i original right steering. At this site there are already some minor pictures of it.

Sad to hear that.
If you want to return the car, you can always contact the seller. If a car has issues the seller knows about, but is hiding, I believe you have some legal rights as a consumer. Maybe contact eBay when the seller doesn't cooperate and show them the ad pictures and description versus your pictures.
But let's see the pictures first to see how bad it is

Sort of gave up my rights by buying sight unseen. I have tried to contact the guy, but he is the strong silent type. Thought he might like to contribute a little back for the downright lies he told....ie, FBMWSH, paint is a little tired in places, only a few areas of slight surface rust....oh and my favorite...stitching has lifted on the hood in a few small areas....ie window stitching has rotted out and the window and trim have shrunk...
Anyway, it is what it is now, and I reckon she will still make a fine vehicle, she seems to drive OK, though the brake fluid was porridge and the rears have seized up a little, O/S back box is badly holed..and is obselete it seems.
Several areas of MOT failure rust. Paint has been worn through to base coat on most panels, and looks as though it has been polished with a scotchbrite pads. Drivers seat is badly sagging and cloth has gone through, again obselete.
Good points, its a 323i Baur, its complete, its original, it has a 5spd box and PAS, its has low miles...
I am going to get her roadworthy and drive her over summer..then hopefully get all the work done, rust removal, respray/blowover, wheel refurb, retrim during the winter.
Here are some pics for you all.
Hood removed, bottom rubber was a little perished and split, but otherwise area looks good.
Main rusty bits, door pillar is a slight concern, but its appears isolated upon initial inspection.
Boot has this worrying area, and shows the scars of a previous repair to the O/S wheel arch from inside, behind the seat.
Some plank has jacked it up on the seam..!!
Interior is very clean, minor things, like broken door pockets, but dash is uncracked, and everything works.
Sadly the drivers seat is very saggy, and the cloth has worn .....as they do. Not sure what to do with this yet, but may have them refoamed and trimmed in vinyl.
Engine bay is not the cleanest, but looks unmolested, and will clean up OK...minor corrosion around the bonnet edges, and front panel...but thats quite good if these are anything like the 02s in this area.
She fires up first time, but then immediately dies everytime..then catches fine on the second key turn...
Maybe stale fuel.... Brake fluid was like porridge...though engine oil, filter, airfilter and fuel filter, plugs are newish !
So there she is, I hope some of you can point me in the right direction regarding parts, where to start first, what else to look for, and what not to!!!
Oh and here is a few rubbish pics of my 02 Tii...I wonder is she is still about...great car she was..I had fitted a 5spd from an 320..shortened the propand hammered the transmission tunnel..was lovely cruising with the Webesto pulled right back...can't even remember why I sold her now..
Hope all the pics don't cause a meltdown.
Cheers Keith

Keith,
I can imagine you expected a better condition, never buy unseen but hey that's a bit late now. I think you should think about what you want with the car. If you want her all neat and clean and in VGC for years to come you're looking at a full restore and that comes with a price tag. If you're not planning that I am afraid but then you better get rid of her... well that would be my choice, when you start you will only find more places to weld.
