Hi,
My mechanic thinks that the whining noise on my 316 auto is from the diff.

He wants to change the oil and add some diff additive to see if that cures the problem.

what oil is used in the diff? 80/90 gear oil / atf ??

Most likely your pineonbearing is worn out. You can use 75w90.

dude if it s whining then changing the oil aint gonna eliminate it unless you pack it full of sawdust and even IF!! change the diff its damaged or repair it.... cheaper to change.
