Now this is where I'm curious for all those different thoughts of you guys! What car is on top of your wishlist and why? A top 3 would be fine as well, but pls explain!

Let me kick off. There are so many BMW's I just love. Roadsters from 507 through Z1 to Z8. Coupés like the Z4M, a Bertone 3200CS, a Glas 1600GT or 'just' a 3.0CSi or a stock 635. Saloons like 1800TISA, E23 or E28. And when I find my Euro Millions lottery ticket again I will go out and buy them all, plus a hundred more. And it doesn't have to be limited to BMW's. A 930 turbo, 964CS, F355, Stratos, 250SWB, DB5, DB6, McLaren F1, all so wonderful.

But I keep asking myself the same questions: what are you going to do with one of these cars? when are you going to use it? Will you drive your SWB on a rainy Alps pass and then park it for the night in the streets of some illustruous Italian town? What are they adding? Bullsh*t questions of course as there's no reasoning, it's a choice made by the heart.

Then let's remain realistic, what car would you absolutely love, would still be within reach, and would add something to the car or cars you already own? Here's my top 3!

1. Alpina B7 turbo E28
This will not come as a surprise to people who know me well. I'm into sleepers and with the stripes removed it definitely isn't a car that screams for attention even though the true fanatic recognizes a fat E28 right away. A luxurious limousine with all the goodies you need, and still power aplenty and almost E30-like agility to throw her around. For taking one for a comfy ride and then turn into a asphalt munching monster in an instant. That combined with classic sharknose looks, handling that doesn't remind you too much of the stone age, mmmm yeah I love it! Good alternative would be the E28 M5. Just as rare, just as expensive.
Image

2. Porsche '930' 911 turbo
Why this one in the list? A true classic, but not too old so I could still drive her like I stole her. Killer reputation, wonderful looks. Performance that won't be that far off my daily but the turbo kicking you in the back, the unique roar. And still you will be able to park it nearly anywhere. Will it ever be mine? Lottery prize needed, for buying a minter, and I'm really afraid I need lottery money to keep it in perfect nick as well. Still, one day... I might get its little Carrera brother
Image

3. BMW Z3 M Roadster
Well, I started off by calling the 3rd position 'a roadster'. With the E21 Baur, sure you can drive open but it's not like a 100% convertible, so yeah that would be a good addition. But a rare example please, and a fast one. Z8? Too much money. Porsche? Yeah, could be a youngtimer 911 convertible. I like the facelifted Z4 but only as a better-than-average modern day convertible. Love the Z3's looks and if it weren't for that plastic rear window I might already have one as my daily driver.

Curious about you guys!

1# Lamborghini Diablo
My absolute favorite motor since i was old enough to appreciate cars. If i could have drawn a car, then it would have looked like the Diablo. Think they came out in 1990 and there was nothing that came close to the speed of the thing. Over 20 years ago and it was doing 200mph + which was faster than the F40. I remember begging my dad to buy me 'Need For Speed' on the pc as it was the only game at that time that featured the car, it was mega!
I absoluetly loved the Countach for its outragoeus looks, but where as that car was radical, and ugly in a cool way,the Diablo was radical and a thing of beughty. The GT versions are about the coolest race cars ever.
Image

2# Lotus Esprit V8
Similar styling to the Lambo in a few ways with the sweeping body and pointed bonnet, the Esprit is the car i would buy in an instant if i had a spare 20k lying around. Not everyones cup of tea and seen by some as a poor mans Ferrari i think its far cooler and better looking than most modern Italian jobs. The engine was an absolute beast of a V8 that was let down by its crap French gearbox and therefore de-tuned to handle the power. The earlier 70's versions were the iconic cars after the James Bond films, but to me theses cars through the years got better looking each time without straying far from the original plan. The Lotus brand has always been super cool, and the Esprit is exactly that.
Image

3# Audi Qauttro
What can i say about this car....probably all thats needed is 'Group B'
Infact when you talk about rally driving in general, its probably the first car most people will think about.
When people ask you 'What would your dream job be ?' then my answer would be rally driver. The most talented drivers on the planet bar none and watching the races back in the day the Quattro and Delta's amazed me. If you've ever stood on the side of a narrow track in the middle of a forest and witnessed one of these cars screaming past at ridiculous speeds then you'll understand why this car is very special.
Hell, even i women won a rally in one, so they must be good :)

Not a BMW in sight on my list, sorry......

ive driven a few esprits, also had the nasty experience of fitting a new rad on a v8 one, and new handbrake cables on a late 70's one too.... not a big fan of them tbh.

this is all "if you won the lottery" stuff here. ive no idea what id buy tbh.

1) a '70's dodge challenger r/t (in egg shell white... vanishing point) and a '70's charger r/t (in black.... bad guys car in bullit).
two car films ive loved from an early age.... both cars probably are horrid to drive... but id have to buy them!

2)1990 range rover vouge 3.9 efi auto. the mintest original one i could find. i love this shape of range rover, one of my mates dads had one while i was at school. was about 6 months old i think when he got it.
i driven 1 or 2 since too and i like the v8 noises and auto lazyness in a car that doesnt thank you for driving quickly.

3) z3 m coupe..... just because the're awsome cars!

dear Jeroen
Great topic this

I am lucky I suppose in haven driven a huge variety of of lovely cars-

so what would take my fancy beyond my current stable of indulgences?

Well if it weren't for its Ford 289 V8 (and the fact that Butch beat it last time we competed):=
I am keen on the Rob Walker Aidan Mills- Thomas 1966 "Paramount" Cobra- it lives near me here (owner has 2 other genuine Cobras) but he wants a lot of money for it!

Am often reminded of my prescient remarks over the competiveness of a Bitzarrini A Corse- the one designed with a sort of front accessed midmounted Chev 327 v8- as I suspected they do well at Goodwood now

The third one has to be a race BMW CSL from 1974 or that 635 turbo Alpina race car currently for sale in Italy - we only need to wait for the Euro collapse for it to make sense at Euros60k!

Problem is that many of the wish list of many I simply cannot fit into!

Ferrari GTO - no chance! Tried Innes Ireland's one at Trophy event in 94 (which we won|)
F F40 can't even get in pass seat with helmet, F 308 GTS is fine as I could lift off targa top to get in
Many Porsches are fun- I suspect that the last of the pre kettle ie the last of the 993s would be a good bet

And of course early Alpinas - ......................

I would really like an BMW E9 in a couple of years. Nothing too radical for now.

If I had lottery money to spend: the McLaren F1.
And a whole collection of Sharknoses.

For now I just want more E21's :D

If I ever have lottery money, I don't think I'll start collecting cars, like Jay Leno for instance. Cars need to me driven and maintained.

I own one of my dream cars in MIB.

A new M3 GTS would be another.

A new M5 for shopping trips and going out with the Mrs.

I've got a dream car day coming up on Tuesday when I get to drive a new M3 race car around Brands Hatch with Tiff Needell. I am so looking forward to it! :)

tell us all re Tiff Needell and that M3 RACECAR

sounds like fun!

He might recall racing with us in the Anglo American Challenge at Donnington in the 90's - seem to remember he had slow black mustang- may even have been overtaken by a slightly less slow Black Camaro- on the other hand he might not!

Been pondering this.

I'd like a chrome bumper 635CSI, a Sierra Cosworth with the big whale tail spoiler and an Aston Martin DB5

That's as well as a fleet of E21's and any modern car I want.
