depends how bad really. having said that ive seen someone with a big hole repair it with a coke can and liquid metal. its good stuff.
surfaces need to be clean of oil so if its dripping out of the crack you need to drop it out of the sump first. clean it up and sand down the effected aera. mix the liquid metal and slap it on. let it cure and refill with oil. if its no longer leaking dont bust your balls about rushing to find a new sump.

I think you might need to unbolt the engine mounts and lift it slightly, or remove the subframe. :\
[edit] Make sure you have a proper sump gasket to hand aswell! - Liquid gasket wouldn't cure on the sump we tried!

you do need to lift the engine up.
in an ideal world.....
buy one of these.....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DRAPER-ENGINE ... 2a1440195b
you can easily sell it again when youve used it for what you pay for it....
jack it up and stick it on two stands, unbolt the engine mounts... put your new support beam across the inner wings. wind the thread down on it and put it round the front lifting eye on the engine. lift engine up by winding up the thread till you have enough room to get the sump off. you only need to lift it 2-3 inches to get the sump off.
without the support beam your left jacking the engine up under the sump and trying to wedge it up with blocks of wood under the mounts and its not very safe.
unless you know someone with an engine crane to lift it up abit, but then youve got the front bars of the crane with the wheels on under the car where you need to work to get the sump off.

normally the're used on fwd cars to support the engine when your changing the clutch/taking the box out.
if you have access to borrow one then thats cool!
