How important is the rubber part (upper) of the topmounts? I mean the one we see when we open the bonnet.
On my car they have already a lot of lines+cracks due to getting old...Should I bother nuy new ones?

No problem, most of them show cracks after a few years. If the bearing inside it doesn't have excessive freeplay (clonking sounds when steering or going over bumps) it's fine.

actually I do hear some clonking sounds, but I am not sure whether they are coming from there...
