Dear Experts
I was browsing more Alpinas over lunch and came across this one -in CA USA:

To my untutored eye it looks a good one- being generally unmolested and scruffy where one would expect for a 100000 km car from new with no restoration.
I have asked them for the build number- which I can't make out
Looks to have had a new radiator- par for the course in USA CA hot climate (rustfree)

These could be more valuable in Europe than US in the same way that US Musclecars are more valuable in their country of origin!

£18K seems about right to me, if it's as good as the photos suggest? Could be a stunner with a bit of love and attention.

Looks like an original example to me. Pity about the mods to suspension and the seat belt and the lack of bumpers but if it is original and rust free, 18K isn't too bad. If you're serious about the car PM user Carmel. Sure he knows the car and he might even be living close to it.

I agree that it looks about right for £18k. And it certainly has lots of potential as a good fairly straight unmolested E21 IMO as a neophyte in such matters of course!

It was more or less what I paid for Herman- if I hadn't found Herman then I would be checking this out- but I really do not want another one! I might send the info to the guy on the Alpina Forum after one WDYT?

But of course getting it here is a whole new ball game of customs and tax and import duty etc from sunny CA. Usually reckon every £ per $ by the time it is landed!

please could yiou let us know when your Euro is going to go "Phut"? I am thinking of converting a mortgage into Euros prior to their being worth not a lot!

And whilst we are on investments - perhaps one of 533 built and 80 survivors (B6 28s) is a good place to put your money? Clearly any one in that world looking after pensions around the world- seeks an answer -there seems so few places to have a chance of preserving assets!!

It also has a problem with me in that it is post 1981 and hence past the cut-off for the Manx Classic and other similar events!

Euro huh? Well, with Greece on the brink of falling over as a whole since they can't be bothered to change too much that might have its influence on the Euro. I mean they get support money and they decided to buy Leopards with that money! And Italy and Spain aren't doing too well either... sofar I can't come up with much gains from our switch to the Euro.

As an investment a rare car like an E21 B6 in a decent and original shape is always a good investment, but on the long run. Before this one is a minter again it will have cost at least 25K so no short term gains I guess.

Do you mean Leopard tanks? The German ones?

agree that this one is not for speculators- mind you as an enthusiast this to me is good news!

I just checked but I was mistaken, they want to buy 400 M1A1 Abrams units for around one billion. So now we know that over here the retirement age is going up from 65 of 67 so the Greek can retire a little earlier and buy tanks. If they can get away with that I see no reason to maintain a European Community or Euro!

I served as a UN peacekeeper with some rather ancient Ferret armoured cars in Cyprus between the Greeks and the Turks- glad they didn't have those Abrams tanks then! Seem to remember the Turks were a bit more trigger happy ............

I don't blame you Dutch guys from being cross- you and the other hard working northern Europeans are going to have to bail out those with current a/c deficits within the Eurozone- I can't see any other solution

........ unless you guys join Germany with a new "Duilder Mark" currency??

Need to keep France in with the med countries lest their Euro 1 drops 50%

Am hanging aroung BmigHam airport all morning today- so lots of time to kill on this blogsite!

Still waiting with trepidation the Euro outcome - next week?

Back to cars for a moment- I am sure that the record prices for classics in the US were fuelled by a desire by the UHNW to find something safe to put their money- hence the record Duesenberg sale $10m anyone?

Am I alone in thinking the E21 looks better without a front bumper

lends a sort of CSL patrician air to the "humble" E21?
