My 4A1 is leaking. This is kinda "normal" for this carb of a certain age. My questions are:
1 Is this due to the gasket or the carb is warped?
2 will a repair/service kit solve my problem?
Cheers

That depends what is leaking offcourse.
A standard repairset has the gaskets of the complete carb. The bottemgasket (the thick one) is not in the set included.

It is leaking petrol (gas to some folks). Petrol is dripping at the bottom of the carb on the outside. Petrol is also leaking inside the throat and jets.

Get a Weber!

This means indeed that the gaskets are worn. Please make sure that you fasten the carbpart at the right torq. If you fasten them to much you disform the three main parts and you keep leaking fuel and air.
Or indeed convert to a weber.

You can buy a complete kit right here.
http://www.racetep.com/weber/bmwkit.html
Kit number is K248. It replaces Solex 4a1.
It is a very good upgrade.
Not cheap.
