hi
i have just bought my first e21,well my first bmw full stop.
its a 1983 316 in lapis blue.
1.8 8v on a weber carb with a five speed gearbox.
it also has upgraded springs to be fitted.
had a couple of rust holes and poor repairs over the years but that is expected of a car this age.
im sure some of you will have seen it on ebay but i got it in the end for £335 plus £100 to go pick it up which i think is pretty good.
it is mot`d till april.and in general is in good condition.
has a bit of rot in the boot.half of it has already been welded.
its had two plates welded just behind the front wheels.
there has been a couple of plates welded it to the sills which are a bit untidy and a hole in the rear quater
runs a bit rough but i think its just a blocked carb so its sould be an easy fix.

at the moment im trying to find a suitable set of alloys and considering retro fitting some more modern cream leather seats because im not a fan of the standard ones.
would also like a limited slip diff but they are difficult to get at a reaonable price so that can wait a while.

Doesn't look so bad that. I may have a repair panel for that under bumper corner, will have to check and I'm so busy that I'm very bad at sending things to people. W&N sell them.

I also have some 13" turbines in VGC (repainted by previous owner, the legendary --ALPINA--) with serviceable tyres you may be interested in if you just want some alloys.

Where are you located??

The Weber carb & gearbox are worth what you paid for the whole car so you did alright there fella!

Good choice and welcome!

im in grimsby so im a bit far away from you.
i got two new front bumper corners with it aswell to replace the rotten ones.
and i have already welded up most of the boot and the rear quater (although thats only a temporary repair untill i can get a replacement panel)

i did a bit of research and found the five speeds are quite rare so i was very suprised when it had one.
and the weber and the springs were a suprise aswell because i didnt know it had them when i went to pick it up.
all in all i got very lucky with it event if part of the boot floor was made of filler.

well, once its on the road and all the rust is sorted and the engine is running properly.
it will get a newer leather interior, new wheels.and generally cleaned up and maybe a different exhaust.
also what other boss kits /steering wheels will fit?

then i intend to drive it daily

also i may get a set of twin 40 webbers or a set of motorbike carbs to up the power a bit.but that wont be for a while.

Well an early Golf Gti steering wheels should fit or there are 3 spoke Motorsport wheels out there. I've got a set of 40's with manifolds & linkage when the time comes. I also have a set of BMW bike carbs available.

Glad to hear it'll be another daily driver too!

thats quite lucky because i happen to have a mk2 golf with an early boss fitted so that should fit staight in.

how much would the carbs be?
obviously it is quite a low budget build

bit of an update.
have cleaned the carb and its now ticking over ok but still has a miss so the ignition may be slightly off.
also have fitted a cream leather interior,
its out of a volvo s80,with heated front seats and electricaly adjusted drivers seat.

they are the comfiest car seats i have ever sat in.no joke.
but they are a tight squeese and sit quite high but im quite big and can sit in them comfortably.
they mount to the standard mounting points so i havent altered the car to fit them just the seats 8)

got it taxed and insure today.first day on the road :crazy :crazy

ran perfectly, but has a judder under braking and a noisy diff.
other than that no problems to speak of.although it does feel a bit sluggish compared to my golf.
boot is all welded up but still needs some work to make it look factory fresh.
car is running alot nicer now the carb has been cleaned and the stutter has gone. 8)

This used to be my car. It used to have Staggered Alpinas, BBS front spoiler, Recaro's and a Sport steering wheel all of which i removed before i sold it.

PM me if you want to know some history of it.
