I was offered a full set of seats recently from an E36 coupe, I wasnt sure if they would fit , and couldnt really find any info in the forum. but, they were going for only £40 so i decided to buy them, and if i couldnt fit them I could always ebay them after.
As it happened with a bit of tinkering and fabrication they are fitted, I even maneged to fit the rear seat!! the fronts do sit about 1" higher than the originals, but im not sure if thats just because my originals were sagging.
I have taken some pics and notes so if anybody is interested in giving it a go, ill post a walk through on the job, includng the modifications to the back seats, seat belts etc.

That actually looks pretty trick! Even modded E30 seats sit higher at the front so wouldn't worry about that too much. With E21 recaros getting difficult to find, as are E30 ones, this could be a nice alternative. They go really well with the vinyl on your door cards and £40 is a bargain.

i think they were a bargain, they have been sitting in a shed for 6 months or so , so I will have to give them a good clean and feed. i originally looked at fitting ford recaros or something similar, but I would never of got the back seat from a ford to fit , tso this worked out well. and technically, they are still bmw seats!

Do those rear seats fold down? I have a fantasy about an E21 you can fold the back seats down and stick stuff in like a hatchback!

Jim
I have the set from the compact before I put the buckets in (you can have for free) and yes they fold down you would have to weld the fixing points from the e36

you could Jim, as Jason said you would need the brackets from the e36, and the top retainers. the only doubt I would have is cutting the bulkhead out? would you have to put some torsional stength back in betweeln the rear shock towers? i dont think I would risk it on mine as its a Baur.
but cutting the bulkhead out would also improve the sound from my sub in the boot!

Exactly, you could have opel manta seats or a number of others, but to me they have to be BMW, even if they're 20 years newer!

Just need to find an alternative for the steering wheel now without spending silly money on an alpina one. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Early Golf Gti ones supposedly fit. I did have one on an 02 so seems right to me.

I see that you have a Baur. The backseats of a baur are even smaller then the normal E21. Do you have problems with folding the roof down in combination with the headrests?
