Idiots ''have a go'' Christmas guide to DIY splits refurb'

As per the title I figured I would put Christmas to good use and spend the time having a go at refurb'ing my BBS splits. I bought these for my track project so am not looking for a show standard of finish. Mind you, I do want them to look good still as I'm a bit of a shallow tart when it comes to that sort of thing.
First off I just examined the rims and using a steel straight-edge rule, checked there were no buckles, dings, dents and obvious cracks. There weren't. I just need to clean everything properly and remove old balance weights and all the silicon that's been used to seal them in the past. I'm going to use the proper neoprene seals when I build them up again.

The bolts all look OK and just need a damn good clean.

I'm not fitting centre caps as I like the open lug look on track cars. I think I'm going to keep them in gold too, as a nice contrast with Golf yellow paint and polished lips.

The rims are actually in pretty good condition so a couple of tubes of Autosol and half a dozen finger tips should have them looking sweet again. In fact, polishing these is the next job as once they're shining it'll motivate me to do the rest.
