I've been researching head gaskets for the 1983 1.8 316 in my other thread http://www.bmwe21.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17760

From what I've read on forums, you're best sticking with one from the dealer or a heavy duty one from W+N. I've not read anything about Payen so can't comment on the quality but it being less than half the price in comparison, I would be wary.

Dealer part no. 11121734279 - rang up last week and it was £81.

i was hoping that i could use one of the cheap one just top see of the head its self is on.its only £15 and if it goes straight away or i still have problems i will know its more than just the gasket causing it.
which is why i want to know which will fit or if they are different
plus if it does work and lasts well it could save me some cash

The gaskets fit the same engine but if you google the part numbers the one with the lowest number shows up as being for a head that has been skimmed as it is listed as being 1.8mm thick and the other is 1.5mm (standard thickness)....i would use a standard gasket on a 316 either way as the compression ratio is not overly high to start with..
