Alpina B6 2.8 #151- Topcat- Isle of Man
Dear E21 Team
Well we made it!
Over 1000 kms drive across Europe in slightly overheating Alpina.
I brought a racing radiator cap with me- which was a result.
Abiding memories remain a lovely lunch in St Dizier - which was crowded because it was Mother's Day in France yesterday, and how well it rides on Autoroute (it has KV lowered suspension system), but also how small it is!
I had 3 of these one after the other in the 1980's - one of which I bought off Dennis Nordern the TV guy; and criss- crossed Europe in them (as I was working in Germany at that time) and at no time did they feel small. But today an E21 really is small and very compact for such a large engine. Great!
Upon filling up - you need to have a large credit card. The guy at the Shell station couldn't believe that it cost £107 to fill up (@ 1.37 a litre) for such a "small" car. Just goes to show that Alpina hides a very big additional fuel tank!
All the ferries are full up back to the Isle of Man and so have left "Herman" with my girlfriend until I collect Tuesday next week!
You can imagine all the memories driving back in Europe this weekend. I had a CSL in Black at the time LHD which we used all over France.
gotta go flight called
will organise pictures later when I can figure these out!

Dear E21 Team
I have managed to upload a few pictures of "Herman" my B6 on the Classic Camaro Website- see above
I don't know why I can do pictures on CCCUK but not here?
Anyway Herman is in brilliant shape for a 31 year old car- I have spoken to Kevin Bird about the correct thermostat which we will order.
Clearly the car is slightly "chavvy" with blacked out spivvy windows, and ridiculous stereo- but we intend to sort that out later!

Dear Peter
Hopefully these cars are known to aficionados around the world- since there were 533 built and I understand only about 79 survive!
The guy i got it from had owned it for some 16 years- which is a coincidence because that is the same length of time that I have owned my E30 Hartge.
Just goes to show if you find a good one people tend to hold on to them, which is what I intend to do!
PS I have had my Camaros for 24 odd years each as well! Although I might be tempted to sell "CJ" - the AMC 360 CID Jeep..........

Re: Alpina B6 2.8 No 151
Quick update
You may or may not have been following progress of Herman to Road legal status on IOM as registered Classic Car
We are having the interior and door panels redone in leather- having removed the slightly chavvy suede in blue
And our great IOM leather trimmer (specialises in custom leather Motorbike race suits) was going great until he had a heart attack last week- he underwent a triple heart bypass operation today
We all wish him a speedy recovery- clearly this has caused a delay- but it is not insurmountable given how helpful the Test team can be (with European cars especially Brit cars - as they really seem to dislike American ones!) and of course we all want Alan to make a speedy 100% recovery however long it takes!
In the meantime the testers have confirmed that we need only cover the interior door panels with something (for safety)- cardboard and the original vinyl say.
And they are happy with a mph speedo from a bicycle and so Steve ("The Victorious") has confirmed that all is ready for the all important Manx Test.
So it could be good news soon...............
I shall endeavour to keep you posted
Am writing this from Inverness- so will leave Steve to work his magic with the test team!
It is possible that we might have Herman fully registered and sorted before that all important TWR 335 of Mark's - we will see!
At least the Norwegian guy is happy with the super stiff KW coilover set-up which has now all arrived safely with him!

Re: Alpina B6 2.8 No 151
dear E21 maestro
I do promise photos when all is sorted -promise!
Steve the vainglorious has been showing me how to use the photo thingy on my whizzy HTC desire phone!
It does look a little scruffy with no door panels................
BTW Kevin Bird has responded over Big Red's inept performance- clearly down on power!
and my chum has delivered the souped up E30 ECU to my office today
I am not back until next week to sort this out!

Quick update
We have secured the all important (or sad- depending on your point of view!) special number plate - in the expectation of a pass for the Test
Being: B6 35 MAN
Alan the trimmer has made a good recovery and will finish the front door trims- steve is sorting out some RHD headlights
I have a new rear spoiler with me - which was delivered to the Prescott Hillclimb where we have been competing this weekend
So we are all set then??
Finished pictures will go up here once complete..............
