Really annoying heater dial, please help

Hi all, back again,
This is a relatively minor problem but a really annoying one. Basically the dial that controls the heater temperature won't go all the way to the cold setting or all the way to the hot setting. It just started doing this, was fine before. It does reach the furthest point cold and the furthest point hot but then springs back a little, so I cant get the heater as hot or as cold as it can go. I have put some oil on the cable and have looked behind the dial where there is a black lever which controls the movement of the dial, perhaps it could be that but I can't seem to fix it and was hoping someone knows what im talking about and it is something which can be sorted out. Thankyou everyone, any advice, help will be much appreciated.
All the best
Joe

Had the same problem on mine a while back, turned out that the plastic part which the cable clips onto at the heater end was broken. Unfortunately this is part of a one piece moulded component which makes up a large part of the heater unit housing, tried to glue and repair it etc, but no dice. Then tried a second hand unit, but other parts of the housing had cracks etc. In the end gave up on trying to work with 25+ year old brittle plastic and bought a whole new unit from Walloth und Nesch for about £120, with all the cables and control knobs.

Having said that, it might just be that the cable on yours is slightly bent, and when you push it to the ends of its travel, it just bends and springs back rather than completely opening and closing the heater valve. I would have a look at that first and see if you can straighten it or order a new cable from the dealer. Make sure you get a RHD one as the LHD are shorter.

Good luck getting the heater out it is a PITA and required much wiggling and swearing on mine!

Hi mate,
Thanks for that. I have noticed the temperature doesn't really change so it might be something to do with the valve. Ill have to look into it. Thanks ever so much for taking the time to reply. All the best
Joe

My first guess was one of the clips coming off somehow as well, but you can always check the operation of the valve itself of course, see what it does when you want to move the lever on the valve by hand...
