Twin headlight issues

Right, I have a 1983 316 with the twin headlights, the headlights work and so do main beam but the sidelights only work when the main beam is on.
It looks as if somebody has had a go at some DIY wiring at some point.
All I'm after really is a wiring diagram for the headlights, sidelights and main beam. I'm an electrician say trade so playing with electrics isn't an issue but I don't want to start ripping it all apart without a wiring diagram to guide me.
If anybody has one could they either on me or post it on here.
