Fuel lines

The solid fuel line that runs under the car has rotted through so i need to replace it. I believe it is 8mm. So am I right in thinking that I can use the copper pipe you get in B&Q for doing gas? So in Theory i can use the associated gas pie fittings to join old to new? Would a solder joint be ok for running fuel through or will the petrol react with the solder?

Yep, just change them for copper! Thats what I did on my E30 325i cabrio.
(crappy pic) old brakeline just disintegrated on removal
new line being made, handy tool for making the new joints on the line
Fitted, two fuel lines and a brake line

btw; fuel is indeed 8mm, and I wouldn't weld them.

You should use automotive copper as plumbing spec copper work harderns with vibration
