Throttle sticking and causing high revs

Hi everyone,
I have a frustrating problem with my car. Car is fitted with a Weber 32/34 carb with a manual choke that I have just had set up professionally so it is running fine. Once the car is up to temperature though the revs stick at about 1100 not 900 ish where they should be. Looking closely at the throttle linkage and butterfly valve it's down to the linkage not returning to it's full extent. If I move it in the opposite direction to the direction it moves in when you accelerate it idles nicely but it wont stay there by itself, it moves back and the revs go up. I have tried grease, wd40, cable adjustment, idle screw, looked to see if anything is fouling but it isn't. The only thing I can thing of is getting a shorter, stronger return spring that will hopefully hold it in place. Anybody have any ideas or experience with this?
Hope that makes sense. Thanks again everyone. All the best
Joe

Springs do tire over time, try a straight replacement? When mine was sticking, it was the cable sticking in the sleeve. New throttle cables are available from the dealership for about £25.

Thanks mate, put loads of grease, petroleum jelly on it. Seems to have done the trick.
Thanks
Joe

At my weber i had to give the spring an extra turn before i put in in place. Just to give it enough tension.
