Shadowline E21?

Most of my bumpers and chrome window trim are scuffed/oxidised. I've tried numerous polishes (even coke and toothpaste) - nothing brings the shine back. I'm not paying for rechroming as it's bloody expensive and I can't afford it, and besides that's money that should be going on mechanical jobs. Since the car is already slammed and has a BBS front spoiler, I though why not complete the chav/drug dealer look and go for blacked out chrome.
Does anyone know the best/easiest way of doing this? Any pictures of it on an E21? Would you black out all the bumpers or just the trim?

dont do it, before that I'd try to speedwrap the pieces (buy regular matte black foil and 30 minutes later you can see how it would look painted)...
I also have a red E21 with corroded chrome, and was thinking of anthrazite colour on the chrome pieces, but i'll rather try to find them in good shape and change as I get them together.

Speedwrap/foil? Tried googling but couldn't find much. Any links or more info?
I'd prefer something temporary tbh, just in case I ever do decide to rechrome or I get fed up of looking cheap.

Pretty sexy actually! Any close ups? Are those bumpers colour coded?! [edit] and the mirrors!

Chrome bumpers and mirrors in red indeed and the rest of the chrome painted in black.

Beaut! Cheers Thegs. Looks much better than I expected. You may have a RHD 316 doppelganger soon!

So - anyone have any idea of the best way of doing this? I'd prefer it to be temporary tbh.

Try and search for Plasticoat is you want it to be temporary.

I too am a fan of "shadowline"- now that I know what it is! Even if Jeroen is not!
see:
We dismantled the rear pop outs (they unscrew into many pieces) and etched primed and painted them with appropriate paint

I think I'll go the plastidip route.
Very nice, TopCat! Looks even better on a blue car. Did you paint the bumpstrips and bumpers black too?

I really like the idea of shadowline, I'm just not sure how well it works on an older car.
The blue Alpina looks great tbf.
